Starfield isn’t even out yet, but it already has a fan base of budding space adventurers eager to leap into the unknown and explore the vast virtual galaxy. If, like us, you’re addicted to cardboard and countertops, you’ll be wondering: does there exist? Starfield board game?
As video game-to-movie adaptations have improved in recent years, we’re also seeing more and more of the best board games based on video game franchises. In our review of the Darkest Dungeon board game, we found the dingy dungeon crawler to be a lot of fun, while the preview of the board game Monster Hunter World: Iceborne completely captivated our reporter with its epic monster battles.
No Starfield board game has been announced yet, but if the right developer gets the chance to adapt the incredibly deep content of the Starfield video game, it could become one of the best space board games out there.
Here’s what we predict about a Starfield board game:

Starfield board game release date
We can’t accurately predict the release date of the Starfield board game as we don’t know if it’s even in production! However, since Bethesda already has board game licensing deals with Modiphius Entertainment and Fantasy Flight Games, an agreement to design the game could be reached.
Starfield’s release date is September 6, 2023. Without further information, we’re assuming that a board game to match could be out in September 2024 to celebrate the anniversary – but that’s pure speculation really.
Starfield board game designer
As far as we know, no Starfield board game is in development. If it’s secretly in the works, then the Starfield board game designer is most likely either Modiphius Entertainment or Fantasy Flight Games. Both companies currently produce games using Bethesda licenses and have done so for several years.
|Fallout Wasteland Warfare||Modiphius||Miniature War Game|
|Fallout RPG||Modiphius||role playing game|
|The Elder Scrolls: A Call to Arms||Modiphius||Miniature War Game|
|Skyrim The Adventure Game||Modiphius||board game|
|Stand out||Fantasy flying games||board game|
Fantasy Flight Games publishes the truly epic sci-fi board game Twilight Imperium, among many other designs, while Modiphius focuses more on adaptations of licensed games. Both companies have released good and bad games; Our review of Fallout: The Roleplaying Game was very positive, while our review of Skyrim The Adventure Game was scathing.
Starfield board game gameplay
Starfield promises to be a massive game with many different interconnected elements and game modes. If there’s ever a Starfield board game, the gameplay needs to focus on one part to focus on. We can think of different models that it could follow.
Both the Fallout board game and the Skyrim adventure game focus on their vast overworlds where players wander the wastelands or mountains of Skyrim in search of their next quest – although both games are from different companies.
One could easily imagine a Skyrim or Fallout dungeon crawler, but instead they are more like RPG board games. Such an adaptation could work for a Starfield board game where players roam from star to star in search of adventure.
Here’s a walkthrough from Geek & Sundry of how the Fallout board game works:
Bethesda Lead Developer Todd Howard has stated that the classic tabletop role-playing game Traveler is a major influence on Starfield’s design. Equally focused on space travel and planetary exploration, Traveler features a cold, hard economic hub that forces players to scramble for money to keep their ship running, be it by fair or unfair means.
A Starfield board game that focuses more on the economic side of space adventures would more closely resemble Merchant of Venus; Xia, Legends of a Drift System; or Firefly the game. This type of game focuses less on the narrative and more on the economic crisis.
Whatever the outcome, if there’s ever a Starfield board game, Wargamer will definitely have it covered!
