Contra Costa Health Services is now offering COVID vaccines for children under the age of 5

CCHS vaccines for children

This week, Contra Costa Health Services announced that county immunization clinics in Contra Costa are now providing safe and effective COVID vaccines to children of old age 6 months to 4 years old.

That Food and drug management (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup recently authorized pediatric versions of Pfizer‘s and modern‘s vaccines for this age group. Previously, only children over the age of 5 and adults were eligible to receive COVID vaccinations.

The children’s COVID vaccines are available in smaller doses than the adult vaccines. Pfizer’s vaccine for this age group is a three-dose series — the first two doses are given three weeks apart, and the third dose is given eight weeks later. Moderna offers a two-dose series, with each shot given a month apart.

Parents and guardians can make vaccination appointments B. at county immunization centers or your child’s regular health care provider. Children must have the consent of a parent or guardian to receive the vaccine.

Contra Costa Health is also planning a series of mobile vaccination clinics in partnership with local child development organizations in the coming weeks. CCHS will provide more details about these mobile clinics at a later date.

Visit the CCHS for more information vaccine for children site.
