IRVINE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sunstone Management announced that it was the innovation sponsor at Born in California, an invitation-only, two-day startup demo day hosted by the University of California, Irvine (UCI). The event, which features 40 startups representing the ten campuses of the University of California, will allow founders developing projects in the sectors of life sciences, digital health, consumer, technology and sustainability to show demos as well as investors, all in one place.
Sunstone’s sponsorship comes from a charitable donation from the Sunstone Community Fund.
Born in California takes place November 16-17 at The Cove, located in the UCI Research Park near the UCI campus, the epicenter of innovation and entrepreneurship in Southern California. The first day of the event will feature demo sessions and a reception for bonding and networking, followed by kick-off presentations starting on Thursday. Each UC campus was asked to select up to five startups to showcase. Participants were chosen from their respective campuses to be investment-worthy and bankable. Every business is looking for seed or Series A funding.
“As this year’s innovation sponsor, we are committed to fostering the community of early-career entrepreneurs within the California university system – and we look forward to engaging with some of the best and brightest at the second annual Born in California demonstration,” said John Keisler, CEO. and managing partner of Sunstone Management. “Through the Sunstone Community Fund’s involvement in events such as Born in California, this year’s attendees represent the next generation of Founders who will drive California’s economy forward for years to come, creating new jobs and allowing the state to remain at the center of innovation. ”
“Born in California is the premier event showcasing companies developing products and services based on UC research and we are pleased to host the event again this year at UCI,” said Errol Arkilic, Director of innovation from the University of California at Irvine. “Investments in these companies help ensure a bright and prosperous future for California and the nation and we are very pleased to have Sunstone join us again this year as an Innovation Sponsor.”
This sponsorship is the latest example of Sunstone Management’s support of the Californian entrepreneurial system, as well as university founders, through the Sunstone Community Fund. In October, Sunstone was the title sponsor of CSU Demo Day 2022.
