While a sequel has yet to be confirmed, viewers would certainly be lining up to see another companion film Michael man‘s heat. Recently the Tribeca Film Festival held a panel to honor the 1995 film in which the main cast were Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro took part. While a variety of topics were discussed, Pacino specifically stated that he would not like to see anyone other than Timothy Chalamet (call me by your name, Beautiful boy) portray a younger version of his character, should a follow-up ever be made.
That casting could (possibly) see the light of day as director Mann is working on a follow-up to the film that is both a prequel and a sequel. The novel, a collaboration with author Meg Gardiner, has been in the works for six years and will hit shelves this August. Mann has stated that he’d be keen to adapt this into a film or series, although no further updates have been given since. Later this year, however, news could easily surface once the book hits shelves.
Chalamet is one of the hottest names in Hollywood that could easily help a movie like this get made. He was last seen in Paul Atreides Denis Villeneuve‘s adaptation of dunein addition to Wes Anderson‘s The French Dispatch and Adam McKay‘s Don’t look up. The young actor will again work with the director Luca Guadagnino for his movie bones and all later this year. He will also be familiar with playing a younger version of a character as he will portray a young Willy Wonka Paul King‘s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Prehistory, wonka.
Given the nature of Hollywood these days, a sequel for heat could actually do quite well. This year alone has spawned a sequel in the form of Top Gun: Maverick, which has performed incredibly well both critically and financially. This film was worked on for 36 years, which is quite a lot more than the 27 years that have passed since then heat brought to the cinemas. Mann himself is quite busy since he’s directing EnzoFerrari biopic with Adam driver.
As for Pacino and De Niro, both actors have been relatively busy in recent years. Pacino starred Ridley Scott‘s House Guccias well as in the Amazon Prime series Hunter. De Niro portrayed fictional late-night host Murray Franklin joker opposite Joaquin Phoenix. The two have also teamed up again Martin Scorsese‘s gangster epic The Irishmanwith Pacino being nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
