After the turmoil surrounding the Chicago Street race, NASCAR’s $50 million venture finally saw success. Despite the unfortunate cancellation of the Chainsmokers concert and the lingering downpour, the Chicago track put on a great show and gave a boost to the three-year deal between governing bodies NASCAR and Cgicago. Well, Daytona International Speedway President Frank Kelleher certainly thinks so.
After the success in Chicago, Kelleher responded with a realistic vision of recreating the extravagant feat in Florida. It’s one that doesn’t sit well with the many people who have joined in on an informal coffee klatch to bring the old beach flavor back into action.

If there is a ticket slipped under the NASCAR door to organize a street race in Florida, how would we react? Well, when asked if the state of Florida would be willing to make the necessary investments in infrastructure, he told the Tampa Bay Times host: “Never say never, right?”

A number of factors will be at play here. From an operational perspective, the race should be scheduled at a time that would not conflict with other major motorsport events in Florida, including Formula 1 and Indycar. Another possible obstacle, as Kelleher stated, could be, “I just don’t know if, in 2024, vehicular racing on the beach aligns with environmental concerns.”
Stating that there is little hope of this becoming a reality, he confirmed, “The stars should align before we take over a Florida town, in my opinion”

Frank Kelleher talked about running on the beach
Safe to say, Daytona is a home for NASCAR since the very first NASCAR race was held at Daytona Beach. It all started in the middle of the 20th century when the first Daytona Beach race was held. The beach races were considered intense and the most exciting as they saw close finishes and were full of chaos. However, it was discontinued after several years.
However, Kelleher does not undermine the thrill, “It would be great fun.

It remains to be seen if there will ever be street racing in Florida. But NASCAR fans would certainly welcome the speculation. Additionally, with NASCAR’s diversification attempts to double down on new on-track racing, NASCAR may end up rediscovering its old roots with new energy. So who knows?
