The second part of the first season of The Nevers is long overdue and we haven’t received an official update from HBO yet. However, we have some exclusive information that some fans may or may not like.
We’re hearing that part 2 of the sci-fi fantasy series has been pushed back to 2023 and isn’t part of HBO’s 2022 schedule. The Nevers Season 1 Part 2 will premiere in the first quarter of 2023, rumored to be February 2023, but that February premiere date is a rumor as of now and may be further delayed.
Production of The Nevers was severely impacted by COVID in 2020, causing it to be cut and later split into two parts of six episodes each. Production on the remaining episodes of Part 2 wrapped last year and earlier it was slated to premiere sometime in summer or fall of 2022. However, due to HBO’s busy primetime schedule, The Nevers may not have found a slot this year. In the remaining days of this year we will see House of the Dragon (remaining episodes), Avenue 5, White Lotus Season 2, His Dark Materials Season 3 and The Idol.
HBO’s schedule for next year includes shows like The Last of Us, Succession Season 4, The Gilded Age Season 2, Tokyo Vice Season 2, Perry Mason Season 2, The White House Plumbers and more.
Before the second season premiered, series creator Joss Whedon left the show and Philippa Goslett was named the new showrunner and took over production of part 2. The Nevers debuted on April 11, 2021 and ended with the sixth episode, which aired on April 16. May, named the best episode of the series. Overall, however, the series received a mixed response from critics and audiences, it has an approval rating of 50% based on reviews from 64 critics, with an average rating of 5.82/10 on Rotten Tomatoes. The series has a user rating of 7.4 on IMDb.
The Nevers is about the “touched” people of Victorian England, mostly women, who suddenly display unusual powers – some delightful, some quite disturbing. Among them are Amalia True (Donnelly), a secretive, short-tempered widow, and Penance Adair (Skelly), a talented young inventor. They are the champions of this new underclass, creating a home for the touched while battling the forces of…well, pretty much all forces – to make room for people for whom history as we know it has no place.
All cast members from the first part will return including Laura Donnelly as Zephyr Alexis Navine/Amalia True, Ann Skelly as Penance Adair, Olivia Williams, James Norton, Tom Riley, Rochelle Neil, Zackary Momoh, Eleanor Tomlinson, Amy Manson, Pip Torrens, Denis O’Hare, Viola Prettejohn, Elizabeth Berrington, Kiran Sawar, Anna Devlin, Ella Smith, Nick Frost and Ben Chaplin.
Created by Joss Whedon, The Nevers is executive produced by Philippa Goslett, Bernadette Caulfield, Doug Petrie, Ilene S. Landress and Jane Espenson.
