Nickelodeon and Paramount+ are bringing Mattel’s horror-inspired Monster High dolls to life this fall Monster High: The Movie, and they recently shared a teaser trailer and character poster for the TV movie. The teaser introduces us to the concept of a “monster world” versus the human world and follows Clawdeen Wolf and her friends on their first day at Monster High. The film follows Clawdeen as she finds a place for herself at Monster High, but when a secret devious plan threatens the school, she must learn to accept and embrace her monster heart to save the day.
In 2021, Collider reported on it Monster High: The Movie‘s first production announcement and casting. Just a few days ago, Paramount+ shared a brand new teaser trailer on their Twitter page, in which the girl joked about her upcoming first day at Monster High. We hear Clawdeen Wolf lament that she’s been in hiding her whole life and that her new enrollment at Monster High offers her a chance to finally be herself. Fans can also get a shocking glimpse of Frankie Stein and her electrokinesis skills as she throws a peace sign over her shoulder, as well as brief glimpses of Draculaura and Deuce. The 30-second clip shows Monster High’s haunting entrance, its pillars and banners, and what appears to be a portal connecting the world of monsters to the world of humans. We also see the girls dancing among mummies in classrooms and in cemeteries, but never get a good look at the cast.
Following the trailer’s unveiling, Nickelodeon took to Twitter to post nine character posters, giving fans what they’ve been waiting for: a head-to-toe first look. The posters feature each of the six original lineup members – known as The Ghoulfriends – Clawdeen Wolf, Lagoona Blue, Cleo de Nile, Frankie Stein, Draculaura and Deuce Gorgon, as well as a look at Heath, “The Hothead”. Only two of Monster High’s adults are featured: Headless Headmistress Bloodgood and the introduction of a brand new character, Komos, “The Creature Teacher”.
Monster High was first introduced when Mattel launched its incredibly fabulous dolls in 2010. The franchise aims to bring the horror genre to younger generations and introduce them to the kids of classic monster movies from yesteryear such as werewolves, mummies, sea monsters and zombies. Monster High has expanded to include movies, books, comics, over 750 dolls, and more, including spinoffs like Always after the high, since its conception over two decades ago. Similar to the 1990 Nickelodeon TV series Are you afraid of the dark? and RL Stine‘s goose flesh Row with A My little Pony Spin, Monster High offers younger viewers a friendlier gateway to horror, and the series places a strong emphasis on inclusivity and acceptance. Some of the dolls’ slogans were “Be yourself, be unique, be a monster!” and “How are you Boo (being extraordinary)?” until 2016, then got a reboot in 2020 with their “Skullector” series, when “Everyone is Welcome!” became their current slogan.
