Back in 2009, Neill Blomkamps district 9 became a hit not only for the director but also for star Sharlto Copley, with the sci-fi narrative nature leaving room for many follow-up stories, as Copley recently confirmed has long been rumoured district 10 could finally start. Given that district 9like the best sci-fi stories, has found ways to reflect the cultural climate of the real world, the actor admitted that Blomkamp wants to make sure a sequel can come with the same effectiveness as the original, so neither has hurry to make him pass the project before it’s finished.
“Yeah man, we’ve been working. I made a draft, I sent it back to him. He made a design. It’s like just trying to find the right story is exhausting,” Copley recently explained BroBible. “There was a lot going on socio-politically [Blomkamp] felt that he might not want to leave immediately in terms of time. So maybe in about a year, a year and a half [we’ll begin filming]. He wants to have something to say.”
Unfortunately, despite the success of district 9the tentative sequel is just one of several Blomkamp projects that have struggled to come to life.
Back in 2015, the filmmaker began showing concept art for a Foreigner sequel that would have ignored the events of foreigner 3 and Alien: Resurrection, which brings back Ripley by Sigourney Weaver and Hicks by Michael Biehn. At the same time, franchise creator Ridley Scott was working on the sequel to Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, which film received overwhelming financial reception. Blomkamp would go on to confirm that the project was scrapped, while Scott downplayed the legitimacy of this sequel ever gaining significant development momentum.
In 2018, reports surfaced that Blomkamp was involved in a new acquisition RoboCop, which would have also ignored several sequels and instead connected to the debut film, which original writer Ed Neumeier accompanies. In 2019, Blomkamp took to Twitter to confirm he had split Robo Cop returnswith reports emerging later that year that filmmaker Abe Forsythe had jumped on the project as a director.
Despite the setbacks of other projects district 10 Since it’s a sequel to Blomkamp’s own film, it might become a more likely project to come to fruition, although we’ll have to wait. Stay tuned for more details district 10.
