Board games are among the most popular forms of gaming. So much so that you will find a variety of video games that have board games hidden inside them. These mini-games bring the world of the title to life, giving you more scope than just the ending of a campaign or story.
Many board games within a video game are tied to either the main objective or a secondary objective. You can complete them and defeat a variety of opponents to gain experience or special gear. Others are just to pass the time. In any case, they make the games they participate in much more entertaining.

8th holotactics
Holotactics were introduced in Star Wars: Jedi Survivor. On the game’s main planet, you can unlock the ability to play it at Pyloon’s Saloon. As you fight your way through the galaxy, you can have BD-1 scan specific defeated enemies to add to your collection of holotactics units.
Each game you play against your friends on Pyloon has a set number of waves, depending on the opponent’s difficulty level. Battle Points are available to you, with the strongest parts costing more Battle Points. You need to use your BP strategically as if not used they will carry over to the next wave to place the right scans on the board and defeat your opponent.
7 Triple triad
Board games and card games belong in the same category for many people these days. Many are played on their own board. Such is the case with Triple Triad from the Final Fantasy series. It is played on a three by three grid in which you place your chosen cards.
In a simple Triple Triad game, you have five cards and toss a coin to see who goes first. In order to win you must control the majority of the fields. When you place a card next to an opponent’s, the number on the touching sides is compared to determine which is higher. That determines who controls those spaces and ultimately determines the winner.
6 taboo
Tablut is a board game featured in Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord. Knowing how to play is perhaps the fastest way to make money playing the game. The game explains well, but it’s up to you to improve your skills in a game with attackers and defenders. Black pieces are the attackers and white pieces are the defenders.
The attackers are in greater numbers, but the defenders don’t need to conquer anything to win. The goal is for the attackers to capture the king or for the defenders to take the king to the edge of the board. To surround an opponent’s piece or pawn from all sides, you can capture it. This clears the board for the attackers to capture more pieces or for the king to flee.
5 machine punch
You can play Machine Strike in Horizon Forbidden West. The series is set in an apocalyptic future where mechanized beasts roam the land. Obviously chess has evolved since modern times in the Horizon universe as this game is based on the classic.
You and your opponent have an array of characters represented by the various machines that mankind fears so much. The figures are assigned points, which the other team will receive if this machine is defeated. The machines also have statistics that determine how they can act on the field, such as attack, armor, and movement. Get seven points ahead of the other player to secure victory.
4 orlog
Orlog is a popular Norse and Anglo-Saxon game from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The focus of the board game is the use of dice. Each player has a set health, represented by 15 stones at the start. The aim is to impair the opponent’s health with a bit of luck with the dice.
There are multiple rounds in a game, with each round having three phases. They are Roll, God Favor and Resolution. In the first phase, you roll the dice. In phase two, you can choose a boon from a mythological Norse character to cast. Deciding calculates the dice faces and any blessings to decide which health to take. Repeat until a player’s health is completely drained.
3 Gwent
Gwent now has its own full game, but originally you had to play it in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The fast-paced card game resembles a clash of armies on a battlefield, where you lead your cards as your forces. There are multiple factions, each with different skills that will help you succeed.
The game begins with a coin toss to decide who goes first, and then each player draws ten cards. If you want, you can discard two and draw two more in hopes of improving your hand. Place unit cards in the battle line and hope your cards’ strength points are higher than your opponents’. You must win two rounds out of three to win the entire game.
2 mario party
The Mario universe is huge. There’s the battle division of Super Smash Bros., the racing spin-off of Mario Kart, and the board game variant of the Mario Party series. Most Mario Party entries have some exploration features and mini-games, but the core of this comes from the main Party mode.
In each Mario Party title, there are multiple game boards with different landing spots, different dangers, and different ways to ruin friendships. The goal is to collect as many stars as possible to be the first on the final podium. This can be achieved by completing randomly assigned objectives, finding them on the game board, or stealing them from another player.
1 Bunkers and Badasses
Bunkers and Badasses first appeared in Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep DLC for Borderlands 2. After all, the Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands spinoff was created with the sole focus of you enforcing a Bunkers and Badasses campaign.
It’s a completely made-up board game that Tiny Tina often changes whenever she wants. The main objective is to venture through the overworld, conquer different dungeons and defeat the dragon lord before he gains control over everything.
