Texas A&M vs Arkansas: Prediction, selection, distribution, football game odds, live stream, watch online, TV channel

No. 23 Texas A&M will square off with No. 10 Arkansas in a key SEC West rivalry that will go a long way in determining which team can challenge Alabama for the divisional crown. The Aggies pull off a 17-9 win over then-No. 13 Miami in which his secondary kept future NFL draft pick Tyler Van Dyke at bay for most of the game. The Razorbacks ran to a 38-27 win after a 10-point comeback in the fourth quarter from Missouri State and former coach Bobby Petrino.

A win for the Aggies over a ranked opponent, especially if their offense can boost it, will do a lot to calm fears in College Station, Texas. Did the Razorbacks look forward last week as they battled an FCS opponent? Maybe. This team’s loser will eliminate any margin for error in the west, so consider this the biggest divisional matchup of the young season.

Let’s preview the matchup and make your picks straight and against the spread.

Texas A&M vs. Arkansas: Must know

Weakness vs Weakness: The winner of this game could depend on which team is the best at hiding their problems. The Razorback pass defense is the worst in the nation, giving up 352.7 yards per game. That’s quite notable since they lead the nation in sacks per game with 5.67 — a full sack per game ahead of second-place USC and Washington State. Secondary gets a lot of help from their front seven and it was still terrible.

The elixir could be Texas A&M’s passing offense, which ranks 99th in the country at an average 208 yards per game. Coach Jimbo Fisher made a quarterback switch from Haynes King to Max Johnson last week, and the only real impact was the lack of interceptions Johnson threw in the win against Miami. However, he only completed 10 of his 20 passes for 140 yards, which aren’t exactly Heisman Trophy-caliber stats.

Will the real Max Johnson please stand up? Johnson has been solid as a starting quarterback at LSU for parts of the last two seasons, and he’ll have to show it on Saturday. He threw for 3,884 yards and 35 touchdowns over those two seasons and threw just seven picks in 18 games. That’s pretty darn solid and certainly good enough to keep Texas A&M competitive in the SEC West. However, we didn’t see it against Miami last week.

Johnson doesn’t have to be Johnny Manziel or even Kellen Mond out there. However, he needs to provide enough threat downfield to keep security honest lest they stack the crate to stop Devon Achane and co.

The fight in the trenches: The Razorbacks have assumed the identity of their coach, Sam Pittman. The former offensive line coach has developed her into one who owns the line of scrimmage. They’ve given up just four sacks in three games and have a rushing attack led by Stau Raheim Sanders and quarterback KJ Jefferson that’s as tough as anyone in the country.

We saw Appalachian State wear down the Aggies defensive line two weeks ago, and there’s no doubt that Pittman will not only replicate the Mountaineers’ game plan, but also has the staff to do even better when Fisher doesn’t makes adjustments.

Texas A&M vs Arkansas prediction, tips

Featured Game | Texas A&M Aggies vs. Arkansas Razorbacks

Give me the pigs, and give me big ones. Sanders, the SEC’s leading rusher, was a terror between the tackles and out in space. He, along with Jefferson, will wear down that defensive front and retire late. On the other side of the ball, the powerful Razorback pass rush will take advantage of Aggies’ struggling defensive line, putting Johnson and the offense behind the sticks. That’s a recipe for disaster for Johnson and a passing game that has yet to show any sign of life. Prognosis: Arkansas (+1.5)
