Dragon Ball Super is now making its way through theaters in Japan and has passed an impressive new milestone just a week after the initial overseas release of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. The newest feature film in the franchise is the first fully CG-animated project in the history of the series and also breaks new ground by being the first in the Dragon Ball Super series to not feature Goku and Vegeta as the main fighters against the film’s great threat indicates. That’s probably why overseas fans have flocked to the theaters when they finally got the chance.
An update regarding Dragon Ball Super: Superheros box office success in Japan has confirmed that it has already grossed 1.08 billion yen (that’s almost $8 million) in the few days since its first theatrical run, and soon the film will only grow in success as it continues to do so continues international run and starts its full international run through the summer. But with fans already flocking to the film, it’s clear it’s only going to get bigger. Thankfully, it won’t be too long before it hits the rest of the world.
Featuring an original story, screenplay and character designs by original creator Akira Toriyama. Dragon Ball Super: Superhero is now in all theaters in Japan and will be released in North America on August 19th, with additional international release dates to come. The English voice cast for the film includes Zach Aguilar as Dr. Hedo, Aleks Le as Gamma 1, Zeno Robinson as Gamma 2, Charles Martinet as Magenta and Jason Marnocha as Carmine. They will join the returning cast of Kyle Hebert as Son Gohan, Christopher R. Sabat as Piccolo and Vegeta, Sean Schemmel as Son Goku, Robert McCollum as Son Goten, Monica Rial as Bulma, Sonny Strait as Krillin and Eric Vale as Trunks, Kara Edwards as Videl and Jeannie Tirado as Pan.
Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment are officially teasing the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie as such, which is to be expected from the movie: “The Red Ribbon Army was once destroyed by Son Goku. Individuals who continue their spirit have created the ultimate androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. These two androids call themselves “superheroes”. They start attacking Piccolo and Gohan… What is the goal of the New Red Ribbon Army? With danger approaching, it’s time to wake up, superhero!”
