The pressure on what is to come is great Super Mario Bros film, the collaboration between Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto and the team at animation studio Illumination. They are the group known for the Minions and Despicable Me franchises. They have the pedigree to make the film shine, but whether or not they do it has fans nervous. Especially since some of the voice cast revelations weren’t well received by fans. The biggest faux pas on their minds is Chris Pratt voicing Mario. Still, Nintendo and Illumination are going all out given the new listing on Amazon.
Discerning seekers found four different sides for four figures of the Super Mario Bros Crew: Mario, Luigi, Toad and Bowser. If you’re wondering where Peach is, we don’t know, and it’s not clear if more characters like this will appear any time soon. However, we do know that Jakks Pacific makes the figures, and they’re a decent size. For example, the Mario character will be 5 inches tall. Bowser figure stands 9″ tall and weighs one pound, making it the tallest and heaviest. It makes sense given how huge Bowser is in the video games.
The problem is that we don’t have pictures of the characters themselves. The only images on the Amazon pages are of the Jakks Pacific logo. Maybe that’s because there’s no footage shown. The first look at it will be available next week when the teaser trailer is released at New York Comic-Con. So maybe they wait for that to happen first and then let the characters’ eyes drop.
Another thing to note is that the descriptions for the figures state that they have 12 points of articulation. That means you can move them around quite a bit. It makes sense that Nintendo would team up with others to make figures from the film, as Nintendo wants this to be a huge hit. Nintendo has been trying to take its beloved IP in new directions for years, and an animated film would qualify as such. Giving the film a toy line could quickly help take its success to the next level alongside its profits.
But again, whether it’s a hit or another swing-and-a-miss from Big N remains to be seen. People are worried about Chris Pratt as Mario because he’s been hyping what his “evolved” Mario voice will sound like. Fans are unsure what that means and it worries them greatly. Even if he does well, some other performers are suspect.
So it’s possible that the characters you can buy are better than the film itself. We’ll find out when the film arrives on April 7th.
