Nations League preview
One of the most successful teams in the young history of the Nations League, Portugal have made a strong start to the latest edition of the tournament.
Fernando Santos led his side to their first title three years ago and they go into action against Switzerland on Sunday after winning ten of their 15 games since the competition began in 2018.
They are top of Group A2 with seven points from three games and this month they looked most impressive at home against Switzerland, winning 4-0 in Lisbon.
Switzerland have been hampered lately by the absence of Nico Elvedi and Fabian Schar in defence, but they have looked lackluster for some time and Murat Yakin’s job could be in jeopardy if things deteriorate.
They’ve lost four of their five games in 2022, the other being a draw against Kosovo, and it’s worth fighting against.
Norway won’t be at this year’s World Cup, but they were in high spirits in the Nations League, winning two and drawing one of their three games.
They’ve only scored three goals in those games, all scored by star Erling Haaland, but it doesn’t take much to prevail against a conservative Swedish side.
The Swedes have lost their last two Nations League games and scored just once, including a home game against Scandinavian rivals Norway.
This time the Norwegians will host and are unbeaten in five home games in 2022, with a highlight being a 9-0 win over Armenia in a friendly in March.
They can make the most of the home advantage and book another win against Sweden.
