Each week, publications from all 11 Southern California News Group properties (Orange County Register, LA Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) select Athletes of the Week for their respective region.
Each athlete is then entered into the Southern California Athlete of the Week global vote.

Angela Liu, Saint Margaret: UCLA’s commitment led the Eagles to their first CIF State Tag Team Championship by winning the Individual State Title with a 67 of 5 under par at the San Gabriel Country Club in San Gabriel.
Maya DeBrouwer, Canada: The second had a great day at the CIF South Section Cross Country Finals at Mt SAC. She finished second in the Division 4 Final with a time of 17 minutes, 9.8 seconds, as Oaks Christian’s Payton Godsey won in 16:54.2. These are the two fastest times in all women’s divisions. The Spartans finished third in the Division 4 team standings to qualify, along with DeBrouwer, for Saturday’s CIF State Meet in Fresno.
Jadyn Lee, Peninsula: Lee started the season with a week of strong performances. The elder averaged 22.2 points and 9.8 rebounds in five games as the Panthers went 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the St. Mary’s Tip-Off Classic.
Alexa Bryson, Long Beach Poly: Bryson passed 40 runners and climbed from 100th to 60th in the final 2 miles of the CIF Division 1 South Section Cross Country Finals at Mt. SAC on Saturday, Nov. 19, to help Long Beach Poly to finish fifth overall and qualify for the CIF State Championships meet by just 13 points (places). Bryson finished as Poly’s third runner in a time of 19 minutes and 53 seconds on the extremely hilly 2.93-mile course. Poly will be competing at the CIF State Championships on Saturday, November 26 in Fresno.
Ari Long, view of the valley: Long, a 6-foot guard who signed with Washington earlier this month, averaged 37.2 points, 14.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 4.2 steals in five games as the Eagles won the title at the Raincross Tournament in Riverside. Long scored 45 points in the season opener against Chaparral and capped the tournament by scoring 44 points and grabbing 18 rebounds to lead Valley View to a 79-75 victory over Rancho Christian in the championship game. She scored 31, 27 and 39 points in other games. Long recorded a double-double in each of the five matches.
Tate Drageset, Buckley: Drageset had 23 kills, 10 digs and three aces for the Griffins in their first-ever appearance in the CIF State Finals. Buckley lost in four sets to Archie Williams of San Anselmo, 25-15, 21-25, 23-25, 23-25, in the Division III final.
