A non-profit organization based in New Orleans son of a saint and the world’s leading tequila manufacturer, Jose Cuervoare partners for a second year in a row in fundraising at local bars and restaurants.
son of a saint Founder and Director, Bivian “Sonny” Lee, III, was three years old when he tragically lost his father and former New Orleans Saints player, Bivian Lee Jr. Even former Saints owner Tom Benson hired, mentored and coached Sonny before founding son of a saint. Through his journey, Lee turned his tragedy into a non-profit programming organization that has helped 200 young men whose fathers have been imprisoned or have disappeared from the young men’s lives.
son of a saint converted a 103-year-old ice house and moved its operations to the 16,000-square-foot building in downtown New Orleans. “It will have a lot of space for activities for our boys. We currently have about 200 children and are happy that we’ve had a lot of growth since our last conversation,” Lee said.

Jose Cuervo recognizes the need to establish himself in New Orleans and has chosen to partner son of a saint for a second consecutive season. Lee explained that it was son of a saint Mentor Nick Goose, whose “idea spawned a cocktail that was served in many New Orleans restaurants and bars to increase awareness and funding for the organization. And it was great.”
From now until the end of the year, when customers from New Orleans a SONNY’S MARGARITA, a specially crafted cocktail featuring Jose Cuervo® Tradicional®, a portion of the proceeds, up to $50,000, will be donated to the non-profit organization. Last year, the SONNY’S MARGARITA was first introduced in New Orleans as part of the Give Back initiative. Jose Cuervo’s dedication and $100,000 donation has been instrumental in the nonprofit’s growth to sponsor 200 mentees, their highest enrollment in the organization’s 11-year history. Named after the CEO of Son of a Saint, the signature drink is crafted as a classic margarita created with Jose Cuervo Tradicional, with each bar or restaurant able to add its unique touch.
“The idea was that Jose Cuervo would match up to $50,000 from what we raised,” Lee noted. “So last year we were able to reach the $50,000 figure in crypto that they gave us. They loved us so much that they increased their commitment to $65,000. When we hit our $50,000 mark in the restaurants, that’s how we ended up with that $115,000.”
The program’s growth rate requires more funding for the 200 boys, who need clothing, travel, transportation and educational resources. “When a boy starts with us, he is ten years old. He’s with us until he’s 21. So I have to fund him all the time,” Lee noted.
Beginning this Father’s Day and June 16, Sonny Lee and Jose Cuervo are asking their guests to ask about SONNY’S MARGARITA in New Orleans participating in the 2022 program at participating bars and restaurants including Felipe’s Mexican Taqueria, Sofia Nola, Ruby Slipper Cafe and Windsor Court Hotel. All purchases under SONNY’S MARGARITA will continue Son of a Saint’s mission to minister to residents of New Orleans and help their communities thrive and thrive.
Lee encourages “people to come to our website and social media. We are on Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook at son of a saint. You can see many activities that we do with the boys and get in touch with the organization. We are constantly recruiting mentors. We have male mentors, female volunteers and anyone can get involved in the organization.”
