Clubs want to be prepared for the start of the Premier Sports Cup or European football.
Here is the latest Scottish football news and transfer speculation:
Hearts are closing in on the signing of Lawrence Shankland. Robbie Neilson is desperate to see the forward he worked with at Dundee United again. Tynecastle Park Club have entered into negotiations with Belgian club Beerschot and talks over a transfer are progressing. Hearts were quoted £500,000 for Shankland, who has four caps for Scotland, but Beerschot can accept a lower fee up front with performance and appearance clauses. (evening news)
Dundee United will announce Jack Ross as their new manager. The Terrors have been on the lookout for a new boss following the departure of Tam Courts and the former Hibs and St Mirren manager quickly emerged as a favourite. Negotiations for a two-year contract have been completed. (The Scot)
Don’s return unlikely for Shinnie
Former Aberdeen star Graeme Shinnie says he is focused on his future at Wigan Athletic and is downplaying a return to Scottish football. Shinnie joined the Latics from Derby County in January and played ten games while helping the team win promotion to the Championship. He said: “My focus is on going to Wigan after enjoying some time off with my family. I stay away from football as much as possible at this time of year and enjoy the time off as much as possible to allow my body to rest and recover. I’ll be back on Thursday for the pre-season and when I’m there it’s going to be about going strong, being as fit as possible and trying to play in the Wigan team. That’s all I focus on.” (press and magazine)
No specific bids for old firm target
“Many clubs” have expressed interest in Stephen Odey, the Randers striker who has been linked with a move to Celtic and Rangers. The Nigeria international scored 13 goals for the Denmark side last season after joining from Genk, Randers sporting director Soren Pedersen said: “At least they’re not that specific so I don’t have an offer on the table from there. It can easily happen. There are a lot of clubs that have shown an interest in him because he’s a good player, but there’s nothing concrete about that.” (fat)
Red card for Celtic gate
Celtic target Alexandro Bernabei returned to Lanus’ starting XI for Sunday night’s Liga Professional game against Colon. He received a direct red card after 70 minutes, but Lanus won 1-0. Reports from Argentina suggest the club are ready to sell Bernabei and have already eyed potential substitutes.
The latest defensive midfielder to be linked with a move to Celtic is former Nottingham Forest and Reading star Alfa Semedo. The 24-year-old has had a strong season for Vitória Guimarães in the Portuguese top flight and is likely to be sold high with interest in the Benfica-signed player. Celtic are said to be at the top while they are also chasing Brazilian midfielder Vinicius Souza. (A bola)
Former Hearts star on the go
Former Hearts midfielder Andy Irving is moving to Austrian first division side Austria Klagenfurt. The 24-year-old signed a three-year contract with Austria’s sixth-place team last season. He was a free agent after leaving German third division side Türkgücü Munich, which went bust. (Various)
