Heywood-born pace bowler Kate Cross, who made history last year when she hit the front six of The Hundred and won 12 wickets
It’s less than 50 days until the world’s best cricketers, hottest music acts and fantastic food hit Manchester when Manchester Originals and The Hundred return to Emirates Old Trafford for the sporting and entertainment event of the summer.
The Hundred’s first year proved a huge hit with families and particularly young people who enjoyed the mix of fast-paced world-class cricket with music and family entertainment off the pitch.
Originals have an array of talent for their sophomore year, led by Heywood-born pace bowler Kate Cross, who made history last year when she hit the first six of The Hundred and won 12 wickets, and explosive batter Jos Buttler.
World-ranked first bowler Sophie Ecclestone and last year’s top scorer Lizelle Lee return to the women’s team, while local hero Matt Parkinson and exciting hitter Phil Salt remain on the men’s team.
Both teams have also received key reinforcements, with international superstars Andre Russell, Deandra Dottin, Amy Satterthwaite and Wanindu Hasaranga all poised to make their Originals debuts.
Off-field entertainment includes BBC Radio Manchester’s DJ Roesh returning to host the home games, while an all-star music line-up curated by BBC Introducing is to be announced shortly.
Kate Cross, Manchester Originals women’s captain, said: “Last year there were standout moments in both the women’s and men’s games as we determined how the Originals should play. We have immense talent in both teams and when we play at the level this group is capable of there is nothing that can stop us from going all the way.
“The Hundred represents a huge opportunity for our game and it’s going to be an amazing summer with something for everyone, regardless of age or background. I can’t wait to get back in front of the fans at Emirates Old Trafford to do it all over again.”
