Famed Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has changed his mind about Mikel Arteta after the Gunners’ brilliant start in the Premier League. Arteta’s team has had two Premier League wins in two games, scoring 6 goals and conceding just 2 goals.
A prominent Arsenal fan and staunch critic of Mikel Arteta has changed his mind about the Spaniard’s approach and tactics at the Emirates. Piers Morgan has been one of the most vocal critics of Mikel Arteta and his style at Arsenal after the Gunners had a disappointing season in the Premier League last season.
Morgan was on the Spaniard’s neck last season as the Gunners struggled to gain a foothold in the Premier League. Morgan flared up as Arsenal lost to Newcastle, leaving their hopes of a top-four finish on the razor’s edge. Morgan called for Arteta’s sacking after her performance deteriorated.
The London-based club still hoped to make the top four despite losing to Newcastle. However, everything fell apart when Mikel Arteta clashed with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham in a game that has been described as the final decision on who would join Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea in the 2022-2023 Champions League.
Piers Morgan fell out with the Spaniard as he lost the game to Tottenham. The Gunners were defeated 3-0 by Tottenham. At the time, Piers Morgan called for Arteta to be relieved of his managerial job at the Emirates.
Another point of contention between the broadcaster and Mikel Arteta was the sale of Pierre Emerick Aubamenyang to Barcelona. With every goal Aubamenyang scored for the Catalan club, Morgan hit back at Arteta, condemning his naïve and misinformed transfer policy.
“Aubamenyang has been the deadliest goal machine in the world since joining Barcelona… and with every goal he scores he makes Arteta look more absurd for betraying him,” said the media personality.
Morgan bit hard when Mikel Arteta’s contract with the Gunners was renewed with added bonuses despite a poor outing with the club. The broadcaster extended its criticism to Arsenal management, attacking them for extending his contract when he had failed to achieve anything at the club.
“Arteta should be fired; Instead, he got a new contract and a massive raise. For blatant failure. Completely ridiculous.”
Despite his strong opposition to Mikel Arteta last season, Piers appears to have reversed his stance on Mikel Arteta when the 2022-2023 Premier League resumes. In a post on his Twitter handle, he gave Arteta a thumbs-up and posted a picture of the Gunners manager with the caption, “Trust the process.” It underscores his changed view of the club’s prospects under Mikel Arteta’s tutelage.
Meanwhile, Arteta has shocked and stunned critics after a great start to the 2022-2023 Premier League season. Arsenal have played two minutes so far and collected a maximum of six points. The Gunners opened their Premier League season with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace. They also easily won against Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium. New signing Gabriel Jesus has been phenomenal for the new Arsenal squad. The former Manchester City attacking midfielder has been in top form for the Gunners, scoring goals and also providing assists.
Obviously, Arteta has improved the squad tremendously with his new signings. However, overestimating Arteta and his Arsenal squad with just two games a season is a risky choice
