Penelope Cruz shared a surprising fact when it came to her working relationship with Antonio Banderas at the Tribeca Film Festival
Penelope Cruz performed at the Tribeca Film Festival on Tuesday for the American premiere of her film Official competition.

She stars alongside Oscar Martínez and former co-star Antonio Banderaswho was with her at the premiere, and both also spoke to the audience before the screening.

After Antonio shared his remarks, Penelope commented that she was excited for audiences to see her passion project and spoke of returning to New York City.
“I’ve been totally in love with this city since I first came here almost 30 years ago and that’s when I met Antonio, we were neighbors,” she said.

However, she also shared a surprising detail about their working relationship, explaining, “But it took us all this time to work together and really have a lot of scenes together, in the other films we were always apart.”
The two stars inside Official competition
The two friends have been involved in a number of projects in the past, most recently in 2019 pain and glory, which earned Antonio his first Oscar nomination. However, their characters have mostly appeared in separate storylines.
The two end up co-starring in the Spanish-Argentinian comedy, in which Penelope plays Lola Cuevas, an internationally acclaimed director hired to create a cinematic masterpiece by a billionaire who wants to get into the big screen.

She casts the exact opposite of Felix (played by Antonio), a commercial superstar and playboy, and Ivan (played by Oscar), a trained theater actor and teacher.
The three work together to make a film with hilarious impact, with many of Lola’s intricate and unusual exercises contributing to the film’s comedic accents.
Penelope and Antonio have been friends for many years
Serving as commentary and satire on the film machinery, the project contains many references to popular film industry hallmarks such as critical reviews, awards, intricate dynamics between co-stars and more, and has garnered positive reviews since its early release.
