A Pakistani restaurant found its social media name on the receiving end after netizens found its latest campaign distasteful. In fact, Swing used her Instagram name to share a clip of her latest offering, which is aimed at men. However, said off promoting Men’s Monday rubbed people the wrong way.
Pakistani restaurant draws criticism for abusing dialogue of Alia Bhatt from Gangubai Kathiawadi
Sharing the video, Swing’s official name carried the message: “Aja na Raja – what are you waiting for?” Swings calls out to all the Rajas out there. Ajao and get 25% off Mens Monday at Swings!” However, the advert received harsh backlash, with some even saying it was “depressing” while others claimed it was distasteful to show Alia Bhatt’s dialogue and scene from her Gangubai Kathiawadi.
However, the restaurant defended its ad, claiming it was “just a concept” and “didn’t want to hurt sentiment”. In a follow-up post defending the said ad, the handle posted another image that read, “Aray logon, itna dil pe kyun leliya?”. adding: “Just a concept. We didn’t want to hurt anyone. The film and this contribution are based on a concept. As always, we are open to everyone and will serve you with the same love we always have.”
Unsurprisingly, like the previous post, this too sparked an outrage among social media users, with some urging, “Please improve your sense of humor,” while another user called out to them, commenting, “Link.” you address a highly insensitive issue with a digital marketing campaign and then say itna dil pe kio lelia? What a typical and shameful act.”
Unfortunately, the tirade didn’t end there. Instead, the restaurant released a third post, this time featuring the character Raziabai from Gangubai Kathiawadi. Representation of the image from the film with the test “Raziabai ko bhool gaye kya?” The caption read: “Gaaliyon ki goonj mein ab taaliyan bajeingi”.
Once again, the restaurant was at the front desk when one user commented, “What you have done is culturally objectionable, misogynistic, contains copyright infringement, and involves illegal celebrity use!”, while another person called for the restaurant to be boycotted, saying, ” Kisi ameer baap k betay ka business er hoga ye, jo itni ayaashi says itni ghatiya soch istimaal kar raha hai. Everyone just shouldn’t go swinging. It’s that simple. Boycott it. Until the owner literally apologizes for their existence and mentality.”
