The Sydney Off Road Racing Association (SORRA) is teaming up with Toyosports to bring an exciting motorsport broadcast to New South Wales this weekend.
Taking place at the Colo Motor Sport Complex, clubs will stage combined khanacross and autocross events, inviting riders from clubs and disciplines to compete in a stacked weekend of grassroots competition.
The weekend will consist of a series of tests using different layouts – with each course designed to test driver skill and judgement, as well as vehicle acceleration, braking and handling, and participants will have the opportunity complete each test once in each direction.
On Saturday, SORRA’s second round of the 2023 khanacross season will take center stage, along with its free rider training program, which is open to riders aged 12 and over and helps build confidence behind the wheel before the competition.
Toyosports autocross will follow on Sunday, and riders are encouraged to compete in both khanacross and autocross to be considered eligible for the trophies that will be handed out at the end of the weekend.
The combined nature of the event will make for a very competitive weekend, with all 31 drivers having to prove their skills at both events in what is sure to be an uphill battle for the top honours.
Among the entrants is Kyle Kilpinen-Hughes who finished second in SORRA’s first khanacross event of the year in March.
With the winner of the last round, Marty Del Santo, the weekend promises to be positive for Hughes, for whom the first place is now open.
But Ruby Martin is likely to make this fight for the premiere more difficult.
Adam Panetta and Daniel Aouchan, sixth and seventh, are also in the game, but with 31 solid starts, compared to 12 in the last round, the fight for a trophy will be thrilling.
The driver training component of the event will begin at 9:00 a.m. AEST on Saturday, followed by a mandatory driver briefing at 12:00 p.m. before testing begins at around 12:30 p.m.
Drivers competing on both days are welcome to camp overnight with an all-you-can-eat pizza dinner which will be provided by the clubs.
More information can be found on the SORRA website.
The combined SORRA and Toyocross event will take place at the Colo Motor Sport Complex on July 22-23.
