Jerry Seinfeld’s legendary sitcom His field arrived on Netflix in October 2021, but the comedian also has a new movie in the works. It was announced that Seinfeld would be teaming up with the streamer to produce a comedy titled Unfrosted (later renamed to Unfrosted: The Pop Tart Story), inspired by his joke about pop tarts. Here’s what we know so far.
Jerry Seinfeld will star, produce and direct the film. He also co-wrote the screenplay for Unfrosted along with his His field colleague Spike Ferresten and fellow comedian and writer Barry Marder.

An auction has been quietly going on for several days, and Seinfeld’s relationship with Netflix’s Ted Sarandos was helpful in escalating the deal to the streamer. Seinfeld signed a lucrative deal with Netflix in 2017, which brought his interview series Comedians in cars drinking coffee to Netflix as well as the stand-up specials Jerry before Seinfeld and 23 hours to kill.

Seinfeld explained the film’s humble pandemic-related origins in an interview with Deadline:
“Since I was stuck at home watching endless sad faces on TV, I thought this would be a good time to do something based on pure silliness. So we took my pop tart stand-up play from my last Netflix special and turned it into a huge crazy comedy.”

In addition to revealing the cast for the film, Netflix also provided additional information on exactly what the film is about:
“Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever.

Who is thrown in Unfrosted: The Pop Tart Story?
Only until June 2022 Jerry Seinfeld himself is known to be one of the cast members of Netflix Unfrosted in addition to taking on directorships.
On June 15th, we learned that 12 new cast members joined the cast.

What is the production status of Unfrosted: The Pop Tart Story?
From September 2021 the production of was planned Unfrosted scheduled to begin in spring 2022.
In March 2022, we received word through Variety Insight that production on the film is scheduled to begin on May 25, 2022 and run through July 1, 2022.
The film is slated to be shot entirely in Los Angeles, California, according to the tax credits announced for the project. According to the California Film Commission, the project received $14.2 million in tax credits. Unfrosted is expected to generate “an estimated $69.4 million in qualifying releases.”
Jerry Seinfeld said in the announcement:
“We are very excited about the California tax credit that allows us to shoot our entire film there,” said Seinfeld, who also writes, directs and produces the film for Netflix. “After filming the entire ‘Seinfeld’ series in LA, I really wanted to come back and shoot there again. On behalf of everyone working on the film, we really appreciate the great reception.”

Netflix has not announced the release date for Unfrostedbut we could potentially expect the film in the second half of 2022, but more realistically at this point we would expect a 2023 release date.
