BOULDER — With over a month until the start of the 2023 season, two Colorado Buffaloes football games are already sold out, including the home opener game against Nebraska on Sept. 9 and the Family Weekend game against Stanford on Oct. 13.
The two encounters mark the first two games of the 2023 season to be completely sold out and the first since 2019, also the last season to have two sold out games, when Folsom Field packed for Nebraska’s last visit on September 7 and thereafter busy was October 5, when Colorado hosted Arizona.
About 25 percent of student tickets are sold by 10 a.m. on August 15. The first batch of CU student sports passes went on sale on July 11 and sold out in less than an hour. A limited number of Stanford Game tickets are also available for families who register for Family Weekend.
Tickets for the other four home games remain on sale and can be purchased here.
Not only will the 2023 season open the era of Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders in Colorado, it will mark the 100th season of historic Folsom Field, which is annually ranked as a top college football venue.
The season opener against Nebraska will be the 77th sellout in Folsom Field history and will also feature FOX’s Big Noon kickoff. CU will host the network’s pregame show and the game will air during one of its key broadcast windows. The Nebraska game is their second home game series since the two retired from the Big 12 Conference in 2010, with Colorado winning both games in 2018 and 2019.
Part of CU’s Family Weekend, the Stanford game is always well attended and will be Friday’s only home game of the season. Colorado hasn’t played the Cardinals since the 2020 season, and the Buffs have won their last three encounters from 2016.
As 2023 begins, the Buffs have sold out 76 out of 411 games since 1937, as far as data is available. The 2023 season will be the 22nd season since records began to have sold out multiple games. CU has never sold out every game in a season, the closest it came in 1993 when the Buffs sold out five out of six games. The Buffs have sold out three or more games seven times, all within a seven-year period from 1990 to 1996.
CU announced on April 17 that season tickets were sold out, becoming the first school nationwide to announce a season ticket sale.
Select single-game tickets remain for the other four games on the schedule: Colorado State on September 16, Southern California on September 30, CU’s home game against Oregon State on November 4, and the Senior Day match against Arizona on November 11.
CU’s first known sellout was in the 1952 season and the 1989–97 period. Each of those nine seasons had multiple games and sold out 32 out of 54 games during that span.
