Details on the new live-action version of The little mermaid I’ve remained silent, so it’s like music to my ears when new information is released.
Melissa McCarthy – who is set to play Ursula in the film – stopped by See what’s happening live with her husband and business partner Ben Falcone, where she gave fans an update.

One fan asked: “Without giving too much away, how’s Halle Bailey’s version of Ariel in The little mermaid and are there new songs in this live-action version?”
Before giving her full answer, Melissa jokingly reminded everyone that she will be “killed” for anything she says about the film — “We were on set and they just started playing Halle’s version of the song,” began Melissa.

“I had a really – not weird reaction – just overwhelming. It is so beautiful. It’s just different. This girl has roots and she sings from her heart.”
When Melissa first heard it, she was with six other cast members, and she recalls that all of them, including herself, just “broke down in tears.”

“She’s a remarkable young woman,” Melissa said of Halle’s character and work ethic. “Every moment… how she is on set, how she is as a person…”

Melissa joked that, from Halle’s point of view, it must have been “strange” to see this “old woman” in front of her [her] crying” while listening to the song, but Melissa admitted she just couldn’t “hold it together.”

Well, it seems like the feeling is mutual, because after Halle saw the clip of Melissa praising her, the singer was brought to tears … emoji style.

Oh, and if you’re wondering which ones Little Mermaid Characters we can expect to see in the film, Melissa was careful to keep her response vague: “All your familiars are there. Maybe there is a new friend? I can not say it. I don’t want a mouse to kill me [referring to Disney’s mascot Mickey Mouse].”
