The 2023 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building their future. Here is the Luke Wypler 2023 NFL Draft Profile.
Lukas Wypler background
Position: Offensive guard/center
School: State of Ohio
Size: 6-foot-3, 303 pounds
Class: Red shirt sophomore
Statistics 2022: Third Team All-Big Ten (Media)
Wypler only spent a short time on the field for Ohio State, but he played well. He is now in the 2023 NFL Draft.
A four-star prospect from New Jersey, Wypler transferred to Ohio State in the Class of 2020. He played his first season on campus as a redshirt but played in one game. In his redshirt freshman season, he started 13 games and was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten. His game helped the Buckeyes win the Rose Bowl 11-2. He returned for the 2022 season and was named a Third Team All-Big Ten by the media. He led Ohio State to an 11-2 record and a college football playoff appearance.
After appearing in the College Football Playoffs, he submitted to the 2023 NFL Draft. He is currently forecast as a mid-round pick.
Lukas Wypler Strengths
Wypler is a good athlete for the inside of the offensive line. He shows good speed to get his representative going properly. Wypler also maintains this quickness to get to the second level and create blocks. He has the ability to play well in space at the next level.
He makes the calls to the line of scrimmage for protection. Wypler shows a good football IQ and leadership skills. He understands defenses and can see where the pressure is coming from. His NFL team doesn’t have to worry about too much of a learning curve for him.
His game is best suited for zone blocking as he is a good athlete and can play on the move. He’s a proven zone blocker at the collegiate level and should be ready to play in a zone system early in his career.
Luke Wypler weaknesses
Wypler does not have a large size. He stands 6-foot-3 and 303 pounds. Adding more weight to his frame will help as he struggles to anchor himself. He can be overpowered by power rushers and can sometimes struggle to fully open holes in mid-play. In addition to his height, Wypler has shorter arms for an offensive lineman, making it harder for him to hold blocks.
As mentioned, Wypler is best suited for a zoning scheme. With his lack of power being a factor, Wypler probably won’t fit on a team that uses man-blocking. This will limit the number of teams interested in designing it.
Currently, Wypler is a more advanced pass blocker than a run blocker. Adding strength will help, but he can sometimes have trouble maintaining blocks in the running game and clearing holes. He was able to see the field early due to his pass blocking but needs some work on his run blocking before he’s ready to play.
Estimated design area: Third round pick-fourth round pick
Draft grade: Pick in the third round
