Saturday night’s Streamer Awards saw some of Twitch and YouTube’s biggest stars take home awards, with Ludwig taking the top honor.
Saturday night’s broadcast of the Streamer Awards provided an opportunity to celebrate the top talent in the world of live streaming, as some of YouTube and Twitch’s biggest stars came together to honor the best and brightest of 2021. At the awards, top talent such as Pokimane, Shroud and MoistCr1tikal among many others were honored during the awards ceremony. With many of the internet’s most well-known streamers all vying to be named best in class, one name in particular stood out as this year’s ‘Streamer of the Year’.
In recent years there have been many big highlights in the world of streaming on Twitch and YouTube. Content creators like Ludwig and Ironmouse broke records on their platforms, with subathons becoming the hottest trend year-round, while Twitch saw a year-round mass exodus of major streamers leaving the platform for YouTube, including the aforementioned Ludwig, Valkyrae and TimTheTatman. Now that the world of Twitch and YounalTube is gathering to honor the biggest and best of the past year, Ludwig was officially voted Streamer of the Year at last night’s awards ceremony.
Ludwig’s win at the Streamer Awards came after a year in which the streamer broke records and made waves in both the Twitch and YouTube communities. Ludwig’s high-profile subathon in early 2021 not only made him the most active and subscribed streamer on Twitch, but also overtook Twitch legend Ninja to become the most subscribed streamer on Twitch of all time. However, Ludwig’s legacy continued to grow throughout the year when Twitch’s top talent left the platform in a blockbuster in November after signing a deal with YouTube.
Winning the coveted Streamer of the Year award was not easy as Ludwig faced stiff competition from his peers. In 2021, Sykkuno continued its massive rise to become one of the top talents on Twitch, while the other nominations saw some of the platform’s top names in Mizkif and xQc being selected as finalists for the prestigious honor. Other awards throughout the night saw streamers like Asmongold, Disguised Toast and Amouranth all taking home awards like Best MMORPG Streamer, Best Strategy Game Streamer and Best ASMR Streamer.
In recent years, the proliferation of streamers and the online community has grown massively, particularly accentuated by the ongoing pandemic, which is keeping many fans at home. The recent return of gaming TV network G4TV has been looking for streaming talent like AustinShow since its return last year, and the rise of VTubers to bring even more fresh faces to the medium has created even more opportunities for new names . Ludwig highlighted a year full of big moments for the streaming world and will look to build on his success in 2022.
