We’ve always wondered about the life of a Love Island editor.
We always imagined them being held in a secret fortress somewhere in Marbella, drinking Red Bull after Red Bull; the moisture slowly draining from their eyeballs due to the endless Love Island footage they have to sift through.
Honestly, going through so much Love Island footage every day must be pretty exhausting – including the raunchy sex scenes. We’re pretty much the largest group of Love Island fans and even we would say a big, hard no to this job.
Oh, who are we fooling, no we wouldn’t.
Anyhow, given the amount of footage these cast souls endure every single day of Love Island’s eight-week stint, it’s hardly surprising that the occasional blunder slips through the cracks.
As far as show bugs go, however, this is quite a significant one and eagle-eyed fans have been dazed and confused by it.
A Love Island investigator (who was probably supposed to be working for Heat) took to TikTok this week to post a video she captured of a HUGE Love Island edit error. It’s one of those blinks, and you’ll miss it, but once you’ve seen it, it just can’t be seen anymore – like Ekin-Su and Davide eating each other’s mouths.
The clip clearly shows Gemma and Luca sitting on the sofas and being very Gemma and Luca. Nice. Healthy.
But take a closer look and you’ll see that the editing makes it look like Gemma had a “quick outfit change”. At the beginning of the clip Gemma is seated in a cream colored dress, the camera then cuts to a group of islanders in the kitchen and then back to Gemma and Luca. Gemma is suddenly sporting cream trousers and no dress, clearly showing that Love Island editors can get pretty creative with stock islander shots when needed.

The trippy TikTok was captioned, “Quick outfit change that #gemmaowen #loveisland #fyp.”
When you do that TikTok thing where you just repeat it over and over, it looks like some weird, edgy college movie trying to be a lot more complicated than it actually is.
The TikTok has been liked nearly 50,000 times and the comments are piling up – and it seems many Love Island fans are questioning the show’s overall authenticity.
One fan commented: “I thought I was going crazy 😂 As she sat down I thought I like her pants [on] then she got up and it was a dress”.
Another said: “The show is set up in such a way now that I bet it’s more like a soap opera than reality.”
Another added: “It’s set up like this now 😭”.
Call out one avid fan who commented: “Why doesn’t anyone notice it’s not just Gemma but also Luca?”.
Guilty.
