It takes a lot of work to turn a gravel racetrack into a motocross experience.
Justin Wallace and Nick Reekers came up with the initial idea, but before it was all said and done, over a dozen people and companies helped bring such an event together.
Last weekend, Sports Park Raceway hosted the first-ever “Pathetic Chaos” Competition at the Fort Dodge Venue.
“It took a full week from Monday to Saturday (to get ready),” said Reekers, owner of Miserable Clothing Co. “There were over 200 side dump loads of dirt and a lot of people helping – (especially) Mid Country (Machines) and Jeff Frevert (owner of Sports Park Raceway).
“It definitely took a hardworking and dedicated crew of people to put it together.”
Wallace, who also promoted the popular motocross event at the Webster County Fairgrounds during the Webster County Fair earlier this summer, was pleased with the result.
“It was cool to be able to bring this unique event to Sports Park Raceway,” said Wallace. “The goal was to make it more of an event than a motocross race, so we decided to build something called ‘Straight Rhythm’.”
Fans were treated to a unique experience.
“We dragged more than 100 half-loads of dirt onto the front section of the speedway, creating a drag strip with jumps and obstacles,” Wallace said. “There were 2600 people and they enjoyed every minute of it.
“It was great to get the crowd involved in the head-to-head.”
Not only did the professional motocross riders compete, but there was also a freestyle show.
“Freestyle motocross was also part of the event,” Wallace said. “A guy jumped on a 70 foot Harley Davidson which reached a height of about 80 feet.
“Jesse Wilson Band and Riddled with Class ended the night with a rock out (as musical guests). My goal is to keep these events going and make the community have a good time.”
Reekers was pleased to see the region supporting the celebrations.
“It was super awesome,” said Reekers. “A lot of the Fort Dodge motocross community was there, as well as a lot of people from other towns around here. The professionals from other communities were there and put on a show.”
