game preview

It’s hard to understand why Shelbourne is so big on beating Bohemians when the Premier Division returns to the League of Ireland.

Halfway through the season, Shels has a stellar record away from home, ahead of Bohs and having won two games more than them.

They should only improve under Damien Duff and the odds are all wrong tonight. Bohs were desperately unreliable, often after taking the lead.

Friday’s big game sees leaders, champions and likely winners visit Shamrock Rovers Dundalk, who have crept into second place thanks to their own form and the collapse of Derry City. With home advantage, Dundalk can achieve a draw.

That would be perfectly satisfactory for Rovers and Dundalk deserve credit for having lost just two games all season. Rovers seem a bit short.

The odds of St Patrick beating UCD don’t seem to reflect the fact that Colm Whelan is out for the foreseeable future. That’s a huge blow to College and it’s hard to imagine how they’ll get anything out of their visit to Saints, who beat Bohemians 3-0 in their last home game.

Cobh has just nine points in Division 1 and Wexford should do the job at St Colman’s Park in Division 1. Wexford remain in contention for the playoffs and are a significantly better team than the Rams.
