The #MeToo movement forever changed Hollywood and other industries as powerful figures were held accountable for toxic and abusive behavior. He was recently Charged with multiple counts of sexual assault in the UK, although Spacey has received some good news about these cases recently.
After actor Anthony Rapp claimed that Kevin Spacey made advances to him at the age of 14, a number of other prosecutors reported who alleged incidents of the 62-year-old actor. While some of those lawsuits have since been dropped, Rapps is still open. While he is expected to appear in court in the UK meeting has announced that he has been granted unconditional bail by Southwark Crown Court and will therefore be able to travel between the US at will.
While this update gives no indication of how things will play out in court, it’s undoubtedly exciting news for Kevin Spacey. Alternatively, he could have been asked to remain in the UK throughout the period leading up to (and during) the forthcoming hearing. But it looks like his voluntary court appearance led the judge to believe Spacey posed no escape risk. While addressing Spacey, Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikran said:
They have cooperated, I am told, and the Crown has not questioned this at all [Prosecution Service], to the authorities in New York and you voluntarily participated in this process today. In fact, I withdrew the warrant for your arrest because it was unnecessary. Given everything I’ve heard about you, I’m not convinced you won’t surrender, which is the real concern.
As such, Kevin Spacey will seemingly have the freedom to come and go as he pleases before the assault trial goes to court. Spacey reportedly appeared alongside four different attorneys and only spoke when asked to give his name and address. He previously made a statement when it turned out he was going to court in the UK, which reads:
Whilst I am disappointed in their decision to proceed, I will appear in the UK voluntarily as soon as this can be arranged and defend myself against these allegations which I am confident will prove my innocence.
With the trial of Amber Heard and Johnny Depp on the back burner, Kevin Spacey going to court in the UK could have the potential to be the next big celebrity lawsuit the public follows.
