Joker 2 story updates support the theory behind the first film’s shocking ending

Posted on June 16, 2022

Joker 2 is officially in the works and its musical format could confirm the biggest theory about the true nature of Arthur Fleck’s story in Joker.

The musical nature of joker 2 might confirm the biggest fan theory around 2019 joker. After years of whispering and back and forth, it was musically formatted joker 2 is officially taking place, with director Todd Phillips returning and Joaquin Phoenix poised to return as Arthur Fleck. joker 2with the working title of Joker: Folie a Deux, will also feature Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, and the announcement of her role led to a most unexpected revelation that the film is a musical.

The specifics of joker 2 as a musical still remain vague and could include anything from a Broadway-style approach to a riff-on The Rocky Horror Picture Show. However, this aspect of joker 2 may have given a crucial clue without announcing it as such. in summary, joker 2 as a musical could confirm that the events of joker actually never happened.

in the joker, Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck unwittingly becomes the face of a revolt by the poverty-stricken Gotham City residents against the city’s wealthy classes. For the same reason, the film also makes it clear that Arthur suffers from a serious mental illness, with his condition worsening when budget cuts in the city’s social services leave him without access to the medications he depends on. This would lead many to theorize this joker‘s final scene in Arkham Asylum, where Arthur laughs at a joke and says to his therapist, “wouldn’t get it‘ states that the whole film took place in Arthur’s head.

The jump from the nihilistic tale of a man’s gradual transformation into a murderer to a musical was chilling news for many upon its announcement. joker showed Arthur lamenting his struggles in his journal and promoting himself as an aspiring but ultimately failed comedian – underscored with the potential that this was simply a bluff on Arthur’s part. In this way, Phillips could portray a different fantasy joker 2which allows the film’s musical element to take a much less sharp narrative turn.

It is already evident that parts of joker were delusions about Arthur, most notably his budding romance with his neighbor Sophie (Zazie Beetz). Although the film shows the couple on a date, Arthur’s unannounced visit to Sophie’s apartment leads to the revelation that she doesn’t really know him. Since much of the film has been confirmed to be just inside Arthur’s head, many viewers have simply extrapolated this to the entirety joker before Arkham Asylum ends. joker 2 might provide the best evidence for the correctness of this theory through its inexplicable leap into a musical.

Despite the controversy before its release (which arguably benefited the film), joker became nothing short of a smash hit in 2019, for which Joaquin Phoenix even won an Oscar. With joker 2Phillips could tell a radically new story that would straight up confirm the purely imaginary nature of Arthur’s story joker. This might even do joker 2 the ultimate big-screen realization of the Joker’s own perspective on his origins, expressed in Batman: The Deadly Joke: “Sometimes I remember one way, sometimes another. If I want a past, I prefer multiple choice.”
