Joely Richardson started an Instagram account to dispel negative perceptions of her.
The 57-year-old actress – who is perhaps best known for playing Julia McNamara on drama series ‘Nip/Tuck’ – admits she “can seem really tough,” but Joely insists that’s not the case harmonize with reality.
She explained: “I understand why people think certain things about me. I can look really tough. A bit ‘thin air’. But I hope that’s not me.
“I started an Instagram at the ripe old age of 57. Just me for who I am just so it’s with the other stuff out there.”
Joely has already had some notable successes in her career. But the actress actually thinks she’s working harder than ever now.
She told The Independent: “I think I love working harder. Maybe it’s because everything feels so much more valuable, or maybe it’s just getting older. You descend into your own skin. You know your opinion.”
It actually took the London-born star – the daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave and director Tony Richardson – years to find her voice and feel comfortable enough to make her true opinions public.
She said: “Growing up everyone around me had such big opinions about everything.
“I found I didn’t, and that was a bit scary. I wanted to know things and how I felt about things. But it took years. Now, as a much more mature adult, I have an idea. There’s something very reassuring about that.”
Joely also admitted that she learned some important life lessons from her mother.
When asked what she learned from Vanessa, she explained: “Oh forever to be humble. That you are forever a student, that you never arrived, that you are always a work in progress.”
