Jodie Sweetin couldn’t tie the knot without her late TV dad being present at their wedding somehow. The ‘Full House’ star wed longtime boyfriend Mescal Wasilewski in an intimate backyard ceremony on July 30, People previously reported, and some of her onscreen family, including John Stamos, Candace Cameron Bure and Andrea Barber, were in attendance for the wedding special moment, including Bob Saget – in spirit, of course.
“He just had to be here for it.”
During an interview with E! News ‘Daily Pop’, Sweetin revealed that Saget found a way to attend their wedding by wearing a piece of clothing that Stamos wore to the ceremony. According to her, Stamos’ wife asked him to change his shirt before they left their house that day, and the actor accidentally snagged one that he found strikingly large – it was Sagets. “He realized it was one of the shirts that Kelly [Rizzo] gave it out of Bob’s closet,” Sweetin explained. “And it was that black button that Bob always wore. Bob always wore a black button. So, [he] was there in his weird little way.”
Sweetin added that she and Stamos shared a touching moment at the wedding when she realized whose shirt he was wearing. “I hugged John and then I kissed the shirt and I was like, ‘Bob’s here too,'” she shared, adding that Stamos also said to her, “I gotta tell you Bob had to be here. He just did it to be here.'”
The day after their wedding, Sweetin posted a sweet photo to Instagram of her and Wasilewski, who were all smiling as they walked down the aisle together. Rizzo, who also attended the wedding, commented on the post, echoing Sweetin and Stamos’ opinion that her late husband was there too. “What an honor it was to be there and celebrate your love,” she wrote. “I know Bob was right by my side. I love you so much.”
Saget died Jan. 9 from complications of blunt head trauma, Orange County chief medical officer Joshua Stephany, MD, confirmed Feb. 10. He was 65 years old. Following his death, friends, family and other stars took to social media to share heartfelt messages to pay tribute to the late actor.
In a statement to People, Saget’s wife wrote: “All my heart. Bob was my absolute everything. I’m so shattered and in disbelief and his kind.” His daughter Lara wrote an emotional tribute on Instagram, which read, “For anyone who is afraid of love, the greatest gift is unconditional love. My father loved with all what he had…I am beyond grateful to receive and give that love…Of all the lessons he taught me, these feel the greatest.”
