Jeremy Clarkson celebrates opening of Diddly Squat restaurant as council failed to stop plans | Celebrity News | Show Business & TV

Jeremy Clarkson took to Instagram to celebrate the opening of Diddly Squat Farm’s restaurant this weekend. The 62-year-old Clarkson’s Farm star marked the milestone in running his Diddly Squat Farm in Chipping Norton after the council said it would have been inconsistent with the rest of the area.

In light of his 791,000 fans, the Top Gear star celebrated the opening of the bar.

Jeremy wrote: “The excellent but rather rustic Diddly Squat restaurant is finally opening tomorrow.

“Bookings only I’m afraid. Link in bio.”

The star accompanied his post with a shot of wild flowers in one of his fields.

Jeremy’s post comes after the engine expert announced plans at a local meeting back in September to convert the farm shop into a kitchen and restaurant to serve meals.

However, the plans suffered a setback as Oxfordshire Council planning officials did not think the proposed restaurant should be given the green light.

Council planning officials have said the restaurant would not comply with the Cotswolds Area of ‚Äč‚ÄčOutstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

As previously mentioned, Jeremy called a meeting with locals at Memorial Hall in Chadlington in September after there was “gossip” in the village about the future of the farm shop.

He announced plans to convert the building into a kitchen and restaurant, serving meals for £60 for two.

However, council documents indicate that the building has since been used as a cafe and bar area without planning permission.

Jeremy admitted visitors had “swamped” the village since his new TV series became popular, but said it has led to increased trade for businesses.

Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Vine said on his show: “There’s more traffic, yes, but there’s more business – the village shop is doing better, the cafe in the village, the pub in the village – they’re all doing better.

“They’re crowded with people, but they’re crowded with people spending money.”

A total of 53 objections were received by the Council, with a further 12 letters of support.

Chadlington Parish Council said it held a public meeting in November to decide its opinion on the “divisive and controversial” motion, but a vote was inconclusive.

The Campaign to Protect Rural England West Oxfordshire said any new restaurant would be a “major intrusion” into the AONB and would “spoil the rural nature of the Upper Evenlode Valley”.

Months ago, the star faced another blow when his application to expand the car park at the farm was reportedly rejected after hoping to increase the number of spaces from 10 to 70.
