Jumping on the #77 Spire Motorsports Chevy for the 2023 season, Richard Childress’ young grandson, Ty Dillon, hoped his Cup Series career would finally get the shock he needed to move forward. Driving the #42 Chevrolet for Petty GMS Motorsports last season, Ty Dillon was 29th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings. But this season has not been fruitful for driver #77 either.
Currently ranked 32nd with 171 points in the standings, Ty Dillon’s 2023 season has been nothing short of a disappointment for the team. With Ty Dillon failing to live up to expectations, Spire Motorsports owner Jeff Dickerson issued an ultimatum to the driver of the #77 Chevrolet Camaro.

Ecstatic to start his 2023 season driving the No. 77 Chevy of Spire Motorsports, Ty Dillon’s first race at the Daytona 500 was cut short after his car developed engine trouble. After running just 26 of the Daytona 500’s scheduled 200 laps, Dillon retired from the race, placing 40th. Things weren’t any easier for driver #77, who constantly found himself at the back of the field. Ty Dillon’s best finish this season came at Talladega, where he placed 14th in the GEICO 500 Cup race.
Unhappy with the performance of the #77 team, Spire Motorsports owner Jeff Dickerson was recently interviewed by Dalton Hopkins of Frontstretch. During the interview, Dickerson said, “I guess with this group of 77, you know, I’d just like to go out there, you know what I’m saying, and make those decisions a little more simply. Because it’s like we love what Ty brings to this team.
The Spire Motorsports boss then issued an ultimatum to Richard Childress’ young grandson, demanding that he and his No.77 team perform better. “I don’t think the results, you know, look, the business of the result, LAW? But it’s like, I don’t think the results are indicative of this group, and what they’re capable of, and they just haven’t had that result to give them some positive reinforcement. But I hope they start that, you know tonight, and get going, because we’d like to keep it all together.”added Jeff Dickerson.
Struggling to find success this season, Ty Dillon’s professional racing career has also been unremarkable.
