During a live stream on April 15, 2023, French-Canadian internet star Felix “xQc” reacted to Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj’s recently released music video Princess Diana. While listening to the song, Felix heard a verse where Ice Spice said something about “meeting the grief”. The Twitch streamer then decided to follow the American rapper’s suggestion and followed her on the social media platform.

First, he sought ChatGPT’s help to write an introductory message. However, he was unhappy with the results of the viral chatbot.

xQc took matters into his own hands and wrote:

“F**k it. I’ll just send a DM. F**k it. I’ll be like, ‘Hey, what’s up? I’m a fan.’ Uhh…okay I’m not sending that I say “Hey” with eight “Y’s” and I say “What’s up?” and then I put in an emoji Ice cream emoji Flush emoji and then cowboy emoji . Done. I’ve already sent it. Thoughts? Is that bad?”

“Even if she doesn’t reply, it will probably make her smile” – xQc’s thoughts after private messageing Ice Spice

xQc reacted to the aforementioned music video after 42 minutes of its live stream. Hearing a certain verse in the song, he remarked:

“Wait! ‘Hit me on my ‘Gram. If you’re smart, you can act like a fan.'”

Moments later, the former Overwatch pro decided to reach out to Ice Spice via Instagram. Initially considering interviewing the rapper, he asked his listeners what they would text the celebrity:

“Chat, what would you say? Guys, I think I’m going to invite you for an interview. I think that would be kinda cool. (The streamer starts typing a message) ‘Hey, big fan.’ To the right?”

Felix then enlisted the help of ChatGPT and gave the chatbot the following instructions:

“Ok, I’m a lower-level, E-level celebrity/creator and I want to send a message to initiate a conversation with a famous singer. She says she wants the message to come from a fan. What should I type to get their attention?”

After seeing the GPT-4 model’s response, the 27-year-old personality decided to write his own message. Finally, at the 56 minute mark of the live stream, xQc Ice Spice sent a DM and claimed to have sent her a “creative one”. He added:

“Guys, I think it’s creative. Chat I think it’s creative. Chat, I think it’s crossing the bridge. I think it takes me there. It’s creative! It is fun! Chat, even if she doesn’t reply, it will probably make her smile. Correct? And then she will remember it. Even if she flinches, right? Do you know?”
