Pippa Middleton and husband James Matthews made headlines at the party at the palace after Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee when Middleton showed off her baby bump in a beautiful green dress. Since their marriage in 2017, the couple has had two children together: Arthur Michael William and Grace Elizabeth Jane. Middleton and Matthews’ upcoming addition to the family will be their third child.
While Middleton has mostly kept her growing family out of the public eye, she has shared small glimpses into her life with fans. In a 2021 interview with fitness brand Hoka (per Yahoo News), Pippa opened up about her family’s active lifestyle. “Being such an active family rubbed off on my son — he loves nothing more than running through the woods, parks and fields with our two dogs,” she said. Find out more about the couple’s children below.
Arthur Michael William Matthews
The eldest child, Arthur, was born in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital on Oct. 15, 2018 — just like his three royal cousins, according to People. Not only is he the firstborn of Middleton and Matthews, but Arthur is the first nephew or niece of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Middleton publicly shared her pregnancy journey and first year of motherhood. In June 2018, she confirmed the exciting baby news to British monthly magazine Waitrose. During the course of her pregnancy, Middleton wrote in the magazine about her pregnancy fitness plan and favorite workout classes.
Six months after welcoming their baby boy, Middleton shared that they had started swimming lessons. “Starting my son Arthur to swim at four months has given him confidence and joy in the water,” the new mom wrote, as reported by Hello! “He is now six months old and swimming is one of our favorite activities. The exercise helps ensure sound sleep during the day and the exercise has improved his digestion… Water activities are a great form of exercise to do with your baby.”
Grace Elizabeth Jane Matthews
The couple welcomed daughter Grace Elizabeth Jane Matthews on March 15, 2021. Grace’s middle name is a special nod to her Aunt Kate, whose middle name is also Elizabeth. Of course, the name is also a sweet tribute to Queen Elizabeth.
Funnily enough, it was Middleton’s mother, Carole Middleton, who was the first to confirm that the couple was expecting their second child together. Hinting at an upcoming baby announcement in an interview with Good Housekeeping UK in December 2020, she said: “I’m hoping to see more of my family than I was able to last year, including of course my new grandchild.”
