Doncaster: It promises to be another exciting season
SPFL boss Neil Doncaster expects another ‘enthralling’ season of Scottish Premiership football, live Sky Sports.
“We have had a really positive relationship with Sky for many, many years. It’s been a great partnership, we’ve seen viewership growth on Sky Sports in recent years and I think a big part of that is the partnership and the way we’ve developed that partnership with Sky.
“We are very grateful for the support Sky continues to provide to the whole Scottish game and we look forward to it Sky Sports exclusively present the cinch Premiership live again next season.
“There’s a lot to look forward to and part of that is indeed women’s football.
“Next season, the top two divisions of the women’s league will come under the purview of the SPFL and we’re really excited about that.
“I think it’s an extremely exciting development in football in Scotland. We’ve seen the growth of women’s football around the world and we want to be a part of it.
“It has been very much club driven and we are confident that we can offer whatever support we can to maximize the potential that undoubtedly exists in women’s football in Scotland.”
“We wanted to do it right with VAR”
Video assistant referees will be introduced in the Scottish Premier League from the middle of the new season.
All 42 clubs in the Scottish Professional Football League voted 41 in favor on the proposal and the technology will be implemented after December’s World Cup in Qatar.
Doncaster said: “We didn’t want to be early adopters of this technology. We’ve seen some of the teething problems its introduction caused in some other leagues, so we were keen to make sure we used lessons learned from those leagues before we implemented it in Scotland.
“We are not quite ready to start at the start of the season but working with the Scottish FA we are very confident that VAR will start later in the season and hopefully garner less controversy than we may have seen lately seasons.
“It’s a difficult task for referees to have, so I’m sure any support they can have will be appreciated.”
