Here’s everything we know about this year’s Hellraiser reboot, from a possible release date and trailer to the cast, plot, and other details. “We have such sights that we can show you.”
Originally based on the novella The Hellbound Heart, Clive Barker launched the Hellraiser franchise in 1987. Pinhead’s poster grimace hinted at another run-of-the-mill supernatural slasher, but the first film was a one-off smack of sadomasochistic insanity.
It spawned nine sequels, two of which are worth seeing: Hellbound: Hellraiser II, more of a horror adventure than its predecessor; and Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, the first step into the dark of the bargain box for the series, which also happens to include one of the best cenobites, CD.
Quality aside, the sequels have proven one thing: the Lament Configuration woes are doomed to repeat themselves, and later this year Hellraiser will return.
Pinhead and the Cenobites will return in the Hellraiser 2022 reboot.

Here is a brief explanation from Hellraiser: There is a puzzle box called Lament Configuration. When complete, it opens a door to a realm beyond pain and pleasure, where you will encounter extradimensional beings specialized in suffering known as cenobites. “Discoverers in the further regions of experience. For some demons, for others angels,” says Pinhead.
Plot details are relatively thin, aside from the inclusion of Pinhead. In a statement, Barker said the reboot will “pay homage” to the original while having a scale never seen before.
“Having seen some of the designs from David Bruckner’s new Hellraiser film, they pay homage to what the first film created, but then take it places that have never been before,” he said, according to Variety.
“This is a Hellraiser on a scale I just wasn’t expecting. David and his team are steeped in the mythology of the story, but what excites me is their desire to honor the original even as they revolutionize it for a new generation.”
Goyer, who worked on The Dark Knight trilogy, previously described the film to Bloody Disgusting as “terrifying and amazing” with “gorgeous” cenobites.
