The Last Moments of Happy Death Anniversary 2U teased that the story’s adventures had only just begun, but disappointing box office numbers prevented a third film from moving forward, but producer Jason Blum recently confirmed that a third film is often the topic of conversation with director Christopher Landon. The filmmaker was quick to note that just because the two are discussing the film doesn’t mean it’s definitely going to happen, but he was also quick to note that fans shouldn’t entirely give up hope that a third post will finally come to fruition. Landon was recently recruited to develop a reboot of arachnophobia.
“Guess who I had lunch with yesterday? Mr Christopher Landon. And guess what we discussed? happy death anniversary 3‘ said Bloom ScreenRant in terms of a sequel. “We talked about it. I’m not saying we do it, but we discussed it. It was very important to us. I’m not saying we do it, but I’m not saying we don’t do it.”
In the years since Happy Death Anniversary 2U was released, Blum has been candid about the status of the series and how disappointing box office success is making this third film difficult to make. Fortunately, that open stance also means that fans can likely place more trust in such remarks when he offers a promising update.
The franchise sees Tree (Jessica Rothe) murdered on her birthday, only to wake up and relive the events of the day, using each of her resurrections to discover who was responsible for her death. A similar situation develops in Happy Death Anniversary 2Uwhich includes the revelation that a quantum reactor is responsible for the rift in reality.
One of the last updates Landon himself offered came back in 2020.
“It’s definitely on the side right now,” Landon shared Richafter the planned title of the upcoming narrative was confirmed Happy death anniversary to us. “I wish it weren’t, and I know it [producer Jason Blum] is passionate about it, I know I’m very passionate about it and I know it [star Jessica Rothe] really excited to do it too.”
He added: “I wrote the idea for the third film a while ago. I think we’re all excited about it because it’s different from the other two films and so we’re really just keeping our fingers crossed and hoping that our fanbase continues to grow – which I’ve really enjoyed seeing over the years more and more people discovered both films. So who knows. There might come a time when it makes sense, and hopefully sooner rather than later.”
Stay tuned for details on the possible future for the Happy death anniversary Franchise.
