SAN DIEGO (AP) — Carlos Rodón retired 22 of the last 23 batsmen to end a three-hitter for his third full game of his career, and Wilmer Flores hit one in the eighth inning for the San Francisco Giants, who defeated the San Two-run homer Diego Padres 3-1 on Saturday.
Rodón (8-5) was brilliant after allowing his only run in the second inning. He got Kim Ha-seong to land in a doubles game to end the second and then was just one away from throwing seven perfect innings to end it before walking Luke Voit. The left-hander knocked out Jorge Alfaro to end his brilliant afternoon.
Rodón had 10 of his 12 strikeouts starting in the third inning. He went two. Rodón defeated Padre’s All-Star Manny Machado in three straight punches.
The left-hander allowed three singles in the second to load the bases and the Padres got their only run due to first baseman Brandon Belt’s error.
San Diego’s Yu Darvish allowed a run in the second and then settled to blind the Giants for five innings before giving way to Luis Garcia, who started the eighth.
Garcia led All-Star Joc Pederson with an out before Flores drove a 1-2 pitch to left field courts, his 10th place finish.
The Giants loaded bases in the second with no outs and got away with just one run on Brandon Crawford’s sacrificial fly. Darvish backed up Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Wynns to get out of the jam.
