BUILDING FOR TOMORROW
We first caught up with Young Kim, Master Dealer at Gator Motorsport/Indy Lotus two years ago, when Gator Motorsport performed an automotive miracle by adding Carmel to the handful of US locations where the Lotus Evija made its stunning debut. in Artomobilia. The Lotus Evija is the world’s first all-electric hypercar, and Gator Motorsport was the first Lotus dealership to have the Evija at an event in the United States.
Gator Motorsport is the only authorized Lotus sales and service center in Indiana and the only sales and service center for Zenos cars in the United States. In addition, an interesting range of used vehicles is offered, from daily drivers to Super Cars. Gator Motorsport upholds the standard that every detail counts in all aspects of sales, service and detailing, from your race car to your daily driver. It’s shaping up to be another banner year for Kim and her team as they anticipate the grand reopening of their dealership.
Kim has significantly expanded its facilities, located near Carmel and Zionsville along West 96th Street and Michigan Road, in preparation for Lotus’ current and future electric vehicle lineup that will include a sports car, a coupe sedan and two SUVs, following the Evija EV hypercar.
Lotus has confirmed that its future is electric and that the 2022 Emira is the latest new model from the company to have a combustion engine. Lotus has released more details on the rapid development of the four all-electric models, so Kim and his team have shifted gears to meet new Lotus dealership requirements. Also, in a true form of entrepreneurship, Kim decided to get a head start and rebuild her facility to meet Lotus’ new digital retail platform ahead of the five-year strategic plan.
“By building this 10,000 square foot showroom, it allows us to accommodate more people, accommodate more cars, have more office space, and with that, we will always have our inventory used specialty cars,” Kim said. .
Lotus has unveiled details of a new corporate identity (CI) for its franchise car dealerships along with details of its new product roadmap as part of a virtual “Driving Tomorrow” conference.
“In the United States and around the world, Lotus is streamlining all processes, whereas in the past there really wasn’t a standard per se about how each dealership looks and feels,” Kim said. “Now (Lotus) has higher CI and SI package requirements for interior appearance and signage requirements. So we have gone ahead and done the five-year plan renovations now.
Once the renovations are complete, Kim’s dealership will be among the most technologically advanced Lotus dealerships in the United States. As Lotus evolves and introduces its “Life-
style,” Kim spoke about the transformation of this particular brand and how it is embracing the world of electric vehicles and evolving to better meet the needs of its customers.
“If you look at the history of Lotus, it’s always been a boutique dealership, not a lifestyle car,” Kim explained. “Well, now they’re becoming a ‘lifestyle’ car.”
LOTUS-PALOOZA, presented in exceptional Midtown along Monon Boulevard, is synonymous with simplicity and lightness…and the iconic Colin Chapman philosophy that continues to redefine the standard of performance on and off the track.
Artomobilia event director John Leonard first brought Kim in in 2008, when he was looking for area car collectors for the first-ever Artomobilia event. The partnership has evolved over the decade and more, and Leonard credits Kim for helping to exponentially grow the event and its satellite events that make up Artomobilia Weekend.
Leonard spoke about Kim’s ongoing commitment to Artomobilia as a supporter and sponsor.
“I think it’s representative of Young (Kim), in particular, and Gator Motorsport, in general, that Young as an individual collector was at the very beginning of Artomobilia and has been a part of every new thing that we have. made – whether it’s Fuelicious, road rallies, etc,” Leonard said. “And our first foray into Midtown…Gator Motorsport and Young are a part of that as well. It demonstrates their commitment to the automotive community and their expansion and helps us to continue to offer more variety and interest in more areas across Carmel. This has been a recurring theme for the past 16 years.
As title sponsor of Artomobilia’s new event, Gator Motorsport is delighted to share some details about the event and what attendees can expect to see from Lotus during the hangar party.
“We will celebrate automotive history and innovative design,” Kim said. “We’ll be showcasing a series of Lotus cars that date back to the Esprit, and we’ll be bringing the full range of electric vehicles, including the Emira, the Eletre, and
confirmed… we are trying to bring the Evija back to Carmel! We’ve handpicked some of the collectors we know to bring some of the classic cars (Lotus) back in time, so this might be one of the few opportunities in the country where you can rightfully see the progression of all classic cars. yesteryear to current and future models.
Leonard added: “It will be a fun and festive experience. We will have around 50 cars, all high performance, and obviously Lotus will have a number of them in the Lotus Pavilion area adjacent to the main hangar. It will be small plates, quick drinks, great food and lots of fun.
Artomobilia: A celebration of automotive art and design will take to the streets of the Carmel Arts & Design District and will expand to Midtown for the first time. Please note, Artomobilia will take place on its new date, Saturday September 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
