Race Purse Raised To Sport’s Richest – 10 million dollars
PALMETTO, Fla. and MORGANTOWN, W.Va., August 2, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Feld Motor Sports, Inc. and MX Sports Pro Racing jointly announced today a partnership that will create the SuperMotocross World Championship. As part of this new alliance, the two companies will work together to grow both Supercross and Motocross and create a new championship platform that will reward the sport’s best athletes with a 10 million dollars Purse – the richest offer in the history of both sports.
From 2023, the professional racing season will expand and culminate with the SuperMotocross World Championship Saturday October 14th at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California.
“With the creation of the SuperMotocross World Championship, we are taking a significant step in evolving the sport into a series better suited to the expanding global market and its impact on our fans and sponsors,” said Kenneth FeldChairman and CEO of Feld Entertainment, Inc. “As media and technology continue to evolve, SuperMotocross will be able to leverage these innovations to reach new audiences and grow exponentially for years to come.”
The Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship and Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship will both continue to crown their own champions at the end of their respective series. Thereafter, the top 22 250cc athletes and the top 22 450cc athletes in combined Supercross and Pro Motocross points qualify to compete for SuperMotocross number-1 in both SuperMotocross playoff rounds and the World Championship round fight plate and the richest payout in sport.
“We’re celebrating 50 years of American motocross this season and creating the SuperMotocross World Championship and partnering with Supercross could be one of the most significant changes the sport has ever made,” he said Carrie Coombs Russell, Chief Executive Officer, MX Sports Pro Racing. “This collaboration will create the only off-road racing series on the planet that offers a fully supported infrastructure, from amateur development to the professional ranks, to enable global competitors to race on the most challenging and demanding tracks in the world.”
All seven of the major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) – KTM, Husqvarna, GASGAS, Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki – are excited about this new partnership and are determined to go head-to-head with their racing teams. Factory-backed racing efforts were the backbone of professional racing in The United States for more than five decades. Their dedication ensures racing competition continues at the highest level in Supercross, Pro Motocross and throughout the SuperMotocross Playoffs and World Championship.
“Creating the SuperMotocross World Championship is the biggest and most positive step that has ever happened in our sport,” he said Roger De Coster – Motorsport Director, KTM Group North America. “Supercross and motocross racing in the US is very strong right now and this investment from Feld Motor Sports and MX Sports Pro Racing will bring the next generation of fans to motorcycling.”
“The SuperMotocross World Championship is an important and necessary step forward for our sport,” he said Chris Roar, Kawasaki Vice President of Marketing and Racing. “The collaboration between Feld Motor Sports and MX Sports Pro Racing reinforces Kawasaki’s commitment to this new World Championship and to the already established and successful Supercross and Motocross Championships.”
The SuperMotocross World Championship will combine the two disciplines of Supercross and Pro Motocross and introduce a unique and distinct form of racing called SuperMotocross, creating a new discipline for the sport. Bespoke tracks will be built to showcase this new style of racing. World-class venues offer space to integrate the best track designs from Supercross, Pro Motocross and now SuperMotocross, and finally provide a stage on which to decide the sport’s ultimate debate – who is the best in the world and ultimately crowns a new overall winner.
“As a manufacturer, it’s great to see two of our valued partners working together to bring something new to our sport,” he said Brandon Wilson, Manager of Racing and Experimental Marketing, Honda Power Sports & Products. “Given that this has been in the works for more than two years, we are pleased to finally be able to share this significant news. The SuperMotocross World Championship will add a lot of excitement for everyone. Fans will have more opportunities to check out their favorite drivers and the most competitive races, and we will now see who is the best overall driver.
“As current and reigning champions in both Supercross and Motocross, we are very proud to have won these titles battling some of the best competition in the world,” he said Derek Brooks, product line manager for Yamaha motorcycles. “The SuperMotocross World Championship is a unique yet natural next step for the sport as we work together to highlight the immense talent of the athletes who compete with our world-class product.”
Feld Motor Sports and MX Sports Pro Racing have already collaborated on industry-related initiatives, none of which was more important than coming together to save motorcycle racing in the early days of the pandemic The United States. Both companies will continue to work together to further expand the sport at home and abroad. Bringing together the leadership experience of both organizations and creating a unified set of rules will ensure consistency across the series for both athletes and teams. Their combined marketing and operational expertise will strengthen and grow fan engagement through integrated media, advertising, sponsorship and activation programs throughout the racing season.
“We are inspired by this new partnership and the creation of the SuperMotocross World Championship,” he said Chris WheelerMotorsport Manager at Suzuki Motor United States of America, GMBH. “Suzuki is looking forward to racing in this new championship and competing at the highest level in Supercross, Motocross and now the SuperMotocross World Championship.”
