Is Scarlet Witch done in the MCU?
Elizabeth Olsen sat down with Fandango, via Rotten tomatoesto talk about Wanda Maximoff’s MCU future afterwards Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
When asked how long she was willing to play Scarlet Witch, Olsen initially admitted that the character’s journey into Multiverse of Madness finished the way “it shall end” while also pointing out that she would need help to get them “some ideas” from fans about their next adventure:
“I really envisioned this film as a story told between… It ends the way it’s supposed to end and I’m always very curious about what the fans want next because I don’t have any ideas either. So I think that would be useful to get some ideas from them.”
Olsen then reiterated that as long as there is one “Good story to tell”, She will be ready to return to the MCU:
“My whole thing, without having these big picture deals or whatever, going nine times or whatever, is as long as and that’s what happened with WandaVision, as long as there’s a good story to tell, I’ll be.” there, but I don’t think it’s fun for the fans to just show up and not have anything interesting to share or tell or explore, so I’m always going with the story.”
The MCU veteran also shared that she loves the idea of playing an older and wiser version of the character and said she envisions portraying Wanda “with similar prosthetics and silver hair” in a future project:
“If there is a good idea, I like to play it. I also think her age will actually be kind of amazing. In the comics, her power somehow degrades her and in some comics ages her. I think that’s amazing. I envisioned myself one day imagining myself with prosthetic limbs and silver hair and would love to play her as this older wise woman and so I have this dream of aging her I just really think she’s ancient, eh the myth of the Scarlet Witch is that ancient myth, and that’s something I kind of adore, a potential future that I just throw away and don’t really know where it would go.”
What’s next for Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda?
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige previously reiterated that Wanda Maximoff’s story will not end Doctor Strange continuation, say:
This is the first place where this story continues, but there will be other places.
Given Feige’s comments, it’s safe to assume that Wanda isn’t dead and that the character will make a triumphant return at some point in the MCU’s future.
Elizabeth Olsen may have a clear idea of where the character will go next, and her comments about portraying an older and wiser version of the Scarlet Witch could hint at her upcoming plot.
Based on the ending of the sequel, it’s possible that the Scarlet Witch ultimately survives, possibly hiding after her darkest turn yet. However, the Darkhold may have taken a toll on her, which has caused her to age quite a bit.
This fulfills Olsen’s desire to portray an older Wanda Maximoff, and the character could once again save the day in a future battle where the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
This plot could be explored in a potential Scarlet Witch solo film, or an older Wanda Maximoff could be featured in one of the alternate realities of the vast multiverse.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now in cinemas worldwide.
