A recent Fortnite tournament had some pretty bizarre rules surrounding banned former Twitch star Dr Disrespect, especially considering he hosted the $100,000 tournament. Due to the ban, Twitch streamers could not show his face or mention his name in their own streams.
These rules are from Tournament Promoter BoomTV, as posted by the tournament participant Jake Lucky from Full Squad Gaming. The rules appear to be designed to allow streamers to broadcast their games without violating Twitch’s strict rules regarding banned content creators.
“Using your channel to knowingly introduce or promote a suspended user is prohibited,” the rules state. “We understand that there may be instances where suspended users may appear on your stream due to circumstances beyond your control, e.g. they or otherwise limit their interactions with your stream.”
Perhaps BoomTV understood the nearly impossible position this put tournament participants in and offered some “helpful tips for navigating this tournament if you’re a Twitch streamer.” This included the designation of Dr. Disrespect as “the two-time” or “Blockbuster Video Game Champion,” two titles referring to Disrespect’s alleged victories at the 1993 and 1994 Blockbuster World Video Game Championships (neither of which fans could locate). Evidence in support and appears to be just part of Disrespect’s wrestling-like personality).
However, tournament participants were also told to avoid showing pictures of Dr.
the dr laughed at those rules on Twitter, but for Twitch, these rules are no joke. Chess grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura recently received a temporary ban from re-broadcasting a previously recorded game with Dr. Earned disrespect on his own channel.
Details on the twitch ban of Dr. Disrespect in June 2020 remain unclear. We know it sparked a nearly two-year legal battle that ended in a settlement in March, but neither Twitch no Disrespect gave details of the settlement, and the Dr. is still banned from the streaming platform to this day. Now Dr Disrespect streams on YouTube and runs a triple-A game studio developing games using NFTs.
