Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign Djed Spence from Middlesbrough.
Spurs are among the frontrunners in signing 21-year-old Spence, who helped Nottingham Forest climb to the Premier League on loan last season.
Tottenham are keen to outperform other rivals to strengthen their full-back position and a decision on his future could come in the next few days once he returns from England Under-21 duty.
The club are aware that they need to add to their roster of homegrown players.
Spurs have already completed two of their expected six or seven signings this summer in Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster.
Spurs in talks for Bastoni
Tottenham are already in talks with Inter Milan to sign Italy centre-back Alessandro Bastoni, who was playing under Antonio Conte at the San Siro.
The left-footed centre-back has played for the Serie A side since 2017 and made 44 appearances for the club in 2021/22 when they missed out on the league title against close neighbors AC Milan.
Bastoni, 23, has 14 caps for his country, including both this week’s Nations League games against Germany and Hungary.
He was included in Serie A Team of the Year in 2020/21 as current Spurs boss Conte led Inter to the Championship where he missed just five games throughout the season.
Conte and Tottenham’s sporting director Fabio Paratici is keen to get as much of their pre-season transfer business done as possible.
What positions are Tottenham aiming for?
Sky Sports News’ Paul Gilmour:
Spurs are clearly backing Antonio Conte in the transfer market this summer following the news that Tottenham have injected £150m in equity into the club.
They have targeted multiple positions including goalkeeper, centre-back, full-back, central midfielder and a forward. Spurs have already completed two of their expected six or seven signings this summer in Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster.
Conte wants more depth in the squad and he also wants to add experienced players, a change from the past when Spurs have been targeting younger players.
There are some at the club who feel it is inaccurate that they have not spent in the past, but there is confirmation that they have not always gotten recruitment right.
Fabio Paratici can’t do anything wrong at the club at the moment. The additions of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski have sparked belief that they are finally getting it right in this area.
Extensive homework is done on the player’s skills and character. Spurs recently turned down the chance to sign a talented Premier League player because their research highlighted concerns he could be a disruptive influence.
