Dame Mary Berry guest at Celebrity MasterChef

She will be featured in next Thursday’s September 8 episode of the BBC series, in which the remaining contestants are tasked with recreating one of Dame Mary’s “favourite and delicious signature classic recipes”.

The celebrity contestants must “master unfamiliar ingredients and techniques” in hopes of impressing Dame Mary and judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode.

Celebrity MasterChef 17 – HEAT Four (LR) – Katya Jones, Ryan Thomas, Kitty Scott-Claus, Adam Pearson and Lisa Snowdon cook in the kitchen of Celebrity MasterChef on August 30.

Dame Mary, 87, said: “I can’t wait to see these talented MasterChef semi-finalists bring my dishes to life and hopefully they are recipes that they would love to make at home too.

“You have to remember, though, that I have eyes in the back of my mind. You may think I’m not watching, but I will…”

Celebrities competing in the kitchen this week include Strictly Come Dancing pro Katya Jones, actor Adam Pearson, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Kitty Scott-Claus, radio and TV presenter Lisa Snowdon and soap star Ryan Thomas.

Professional dancer Jones, 33, returns to the Strictly cast this year as BBC One’s flagship show returns for its 20th series.

She made Strictly history in 2020 when she danced alongside boxer Nicola Adams as part of the show’s first same-sex pairing, but her trip was cut short after Jones tested positive for Covid-19 and they were forced to leave the series early .

She said of Celebrity MasterChef: “I’ve been a professional dancer for 30 years, I’ve been a teacher and I’ve always been in control of the situation.

“I’ve been learning my craft for so long that I thought being on the other side, being the beginner, being the amateur and being judged for something so out of my comfort zone would make me a better person.

“I’m learning a new life skill, meeting new people, what’s better than that? Everything while eating!”.

Coronation Street and Neighbors star Thomas, 38, said of his presence in the MasterChef kitchen: “It’s very intimidating and scary when you first walk in, nothing can prepare you for it. Go into the kitchen, find out where everything is and then cook the food.”

British actor and disability rights activist Pearson, 37, who suffers from neurofibromatosis, said: “I wanted to do Celebrity MasterChef to learn a new skill. I come here with absolutely zero cooking skills.

“As someone who has made a career out of going out and telling other disabled people to live their lives, seize the day, carpe diem, at the risk of avoiding hypocrisy, I thought I should do so. Besides, ladies love a chef.”

Celebrity MasterChef airs on BBC One on August 30 at 9pm. Semi-final week will be broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on September 6th, 8th and 9th.
