Cult Classic Gets 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Release Date

Sony Entertainment Pictures recently announced that the film, which has influenced several tributes and some pop culture sci-fi geeks, is the 1985 comedy Real geniuswill be released on 4K Ultra UHD Blu-ray.

The 1985 science fiction film’s 4K Ultra UHD disc is presented in high definition and includes the feature scanned with Dolby Vision from the original camera negative and presented in 4K resolution. The Blu-ray disc of the remastered film also includes commentary from the film’s director MarthaCollins, a deleted “Balloon Chair” scene, raw editing and other special features. The sound for 4K Ultra UHD, in addition to the original Dolby Stereo, also includes 5.1 audio and a new Dolby Atmos.

Real genius takes place on the fictional Pacific Tech campus and tells the story of a group of crazy teenage geniuses who, when working together, can achieve just about anything. The plot follows Professor Jerry Hathaway (William Atherton) of Pacific Technical University, who is secretly recruited by the CIA to create the power source for Crossbow. Hathaway uses his considerable influence and recruits a brilliant team of students to work for him. The team includes the always ready to party Chris (Val Kilmer), who is a genius in his senior year, 16-year-old pipe dream Mitch (Gab Jarrett) and America’s socially awkward number one mind Lazlo (Jonathan Gries). Though the clumsy but inseparable trio should be working hard on the lab project, they still find time to throw awesome beach parties and convert the dorm into an ice rink. However, when the three geniuses find out that their professor had them work on a secret weapon for the military, they devise an elaborate plan for revenge, and as expected, comedy ensues.

Considered a hidden gem, this timeless classic combines the theme and music that takes you back to the 80’s. The film certainly ticks all the boxes, great acting, fantastic soundtrack, nostalgia (without being frighteningly obsolete), humor and a dash of oddly endearing romance. The film is way ahead of its time as several notable actors took inspiration from Kilmer’s Chris Knight character. The 1985 comedy was written by New Israel, peter torowkei, and Pat Prof. The film was produced by brian gazer and guided by Martha Coolidge.

The classic Real genius expected to be released on September 13th in 4K UHD Blu-ray.
