Celebrity Gogglebox viewers were left confused when actress Denise Van Outen failed to mention her own starring role in a TC show featured on the program.
Celebrity Gogglebox stars shared their memories of Neighbors as the Australian TV soap comes to an end. Dame Joanna Lumley and Denise van Outen were among the famous faces commenting on the show’s demise on Friday.
The cast of the Channel 4 TV review show were shown highlights from Neighbor’s long history, including the wedding of Scott Mitchell and Charlene Robinson (played by Donovan and Minogue). The famous scene was watched by more than 20 million British viewers at the time.

Denise van Outen said: “They were actually together, that’s why it was so cute.”
But fans at home were at a loss as to why Denise didn’t mention her own role on the Australian soap. The 47-year-old actress played Prue Wallace on the soap opera between 2019 and 2020 and was the on-screen mom to Harlow Robinson, played by Jason Donovan’s daughter Jemma.
Sarah Evans @sazmi wrote, “Sorry Denise won’t mention she was in #Neighbors as the soap mom to Jason Donovan’s real life daughters.”
Emma Buckland @buckland_emma added, “Also don’t think Denise Van Outen mentioned being in Neighbors.”
Neighbors has aired for more than 9,000 episodes in its 37-year history. It helped boost the careers of stars like Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Margot Robbie, Liam Hemsworth and Guy Pierce.
Andi Oliver commented on a BBC News package reporting the soap opera’s ending: “It’s really weird. I don’t understand a world without neighbors.” Babatunde Aléshé joked: “I didn’t even know it was still going on”.
Lucy Richardson commented, “I remember crying at that point. I was really upset that he was getting married – I wanted to marry him.”
Dame Joanna Lumley joked that she’ll be watching the show now. She said: “Now we can watch 9,000 episodes in playback […] I’ll take a look.”
The Ramsay Street cast filmed the final scene of the show last week. The broadcast is scheduled for August 1st.
For many years the soap drew larger audiences in the UK than in Australia, with a funding deal between Channel 5 and home broadcaster Network 10 keeping the program on the air. Channel 5 said dropping the soap meant more investment could be made in its original British dramas.
@David_Irons65 commented on the celebrity Gogglebox segment on Twitter: “I just love the so-called naivety of these celebrities who have clearly been living in a cave while discussing neighbors #gogglebox for the last 20 years.”
@JuneGloom20 added: “Love the idea of [Brandreth] and Joanna watches all 8000+ episodes of #Neighbors!”
Other celebrities who have appeared on Gogglebox have included Nick and Liv Grimshaw, Zoe Ball and Woody Cook, Rylan and his mother Linda, Clare Balding and Alice Arnold, Micah Richards and Jamie Carragher, the Kemp family, and Tom Allen and Rob Beckett. They reviewed programs like This Is MY House, Romeo and Duet, and the latest series of Stranger Things.
Celebrity Gogglebox continues next Friday at 9pm on Channel 4 and All4.
