World champion Max Verstappen spins in turn two, but bravely keeps his Red Bull out of the barrier.
Fernando Alonso set the fastest time in a fascinating final practice session in the rain at the Canadian GP before a thrilling Montreal qualifying session.
Alonso edged out AphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly and Sebastian Vettel’s Aston Martin, both just over half a tenth behind the Spaniard, while his Alpine teammate Esteban Ocon was fourth.
After opting not to compete in the first half of the session, Championship leader Max Verstappen was just ninth, narrowly avoiding a costly crash as he spun at Turn 2.
Ferrari confirmed during the session that, as expected by many, Charles Leclerc will take a new power unit and start Sunday’s race from the last row. Leclerc does without a lap time.
After struggling on Friday, Mercedes didn’t seem to benefit from the wet conditions. George Russell finished seventh behind the McLarens of Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris while Lewis Hamilton was 15th.
